Narrator:
The days in the nightmare castle passed with a new routine. Since Nightmare had made the promise to have breakfast, dinner, and sleep with his son, the daily dynamics of the place had changed noticeably. Now, every morning, they found themselves in the kitchen, sharing a sort of habit that, while unusual for someone like Nightmare, was beginning to feel almost... normal.
Breakfast was a quiet time, but not uncomfortable. Nightmare always drank his cup of bitter coffee, a huge cup that seemed small in his hands, while he watched Crescent, who enjoyed his food vigorously. Crescent, who had initially been shy and nervous at the idea of having breakfast every day with his parents as a family, was now much more relaxed. As the days went by, he had learned to become comfortable with the new sensations he felt from having his family somewhat complete, and food had begun to taste better as he stopped focusing on his parent's interaction more than the taste or texture of what he ate.
Killer had also begun to enjoy being part of these family moments, which had initially been a source of tension. It was very different from the first few times where the awkwardness between them was palpable. Over time, and thanks to Crescent's playful intervention, the dinners and breakfasts shared between them had become a regular part of their daily lives.
But if meals were a positive new habit, the nights in the king of nightmare's room had brought them plenty of challenges.
Everything continued the second night in which Nightmare had tried to keep his promise of sleeping next to Crescent. What seemed like a simple thought of 'It was just a small oversight to end up so close together, it can't possibly happen a second time if we're aware that we have to prevent it from happening again' had ended in a comedic chaos, with Crescent and Killer ending up in uncomfortable positions for Nightmare, who, upon waking, had found Crescent cuddling against his side and Killer sleeping with his head resting on his shoulder. Although Nightmare was the representation of chaos and negativity, he was not prepared for this type of intimacy where he could do nothing but refrain from filling the killer's entire facial skeleton with kisses by dazzling him with such an adorable scene in the early hours of the morning.
Determined to prevent that situation from happening again, Nightmare had devised a plan. The next night, he built a small barrier between them, a wall of pillows that would separate Crescent and Killer from him, keeping some distance. The idea seemed solid: everyone would have their space without their positions ending up intertwined at dawn. However, what Nightmare had not anticipated was Crescent's nocturnal energy.
At first, the pillow barrier seemed to do its job. For the first few hours, Nightmare slept in relative peace, enjoying the solitude that this small separation gave him. But inevitably, at some point during the night, Crescent began to move. His sleep was restless, and without realizing it, his feet began to kick the pillows. With a couple of involuntary movements, the "wall" that Nightmare had built with so much effort crumbled as if it had never existed.
That night, Nightmare woke up with a strange feeling, only to realize that, once again, Crescent was stuck to his side, with one leg draped over him. At the same time, Killer, who seemed to have taken advantage of the absence of pillows in his sleeping state, was curled up in a closer and more comfortable position right next to him.
The most frustrating thing was that this scenario had not been the last. No, this happened over and over again, night after night. At first, Nightmare was trying to rearrange the pillows in the darkness, hoping to restore order. But Crescent always found a way to kick them in his sleep, leaving Nightmare with no options.
After three days, Nightmare was wondering if it was better to give up. Although he complained about it, deep down, a part of him just wanted to accept and enjoy that peculiar nighttime routine. Crescent was his son and Killer was the person he loved, but by being so stupid he let time pass and for not telling the truth... he lost any chance to even dream of spending his days with them.
...
After those first days of domestic chaos, the decision was made to resume the Bad Guys meetings. Although Nightmare had not openly mentioned the reason why the meetings had been postponed, it was evident that it was time to return to action, the universes had been at peace for too long.
Thus, the meetings got underway again. Days of training, planning, and strategic meetings filled the agenda of Nightmare and the others. However, despite the hustle and bustle, Nightmare never broke his promise. He always found time to have breakfast, dinner and sleep with his most precious people, making sure those moments were maintained, even when the days became more complicated. Although Nightmare was not one to express his emotions openly, his actions spoke louder than words. Crescent cherished those meals, those moments when, even though they didn't talk much, he felt the bond with his parents slowly grow.
Two weeks passed since his last visit to Ccino's cafeteria. The days were full of activities, but deep down, there was something different in the lives of the three of them. As much as Nightmare tried to keep his distance, this new closeness with Crescent and Killer was beginning to become part of his routine. The nights with the pillow barrier that always failed, the silent but meaningful breakfasts, and the shared dinners were now a habit that, although he did not openly admit it, Nightmare was not very willing to leave behind.
Life in Nightmare's castle, which was previously lonely and dark, now had a new rhythm. A rhythm that, although chaotic, felt warmer and full of life. A rhythm that helped him devise a new plan, a plan that had to do with his monochrome-clad subordinate, Cross.
