❟❛❟ CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE ❟❛❟
AKAME GROANED AS SHE FORCED HERSELF TO SIT UP. Her head pounded, and the air was thick with dust, making each breath feel heavy. She blinked several times, trying to clear her blurred vision. When her sight finally sharpened, her breath hitched. The devastation before her was unimaginable—buildings toppled like crumbled toys, streets torn apart, and an eerie, suffocating silence blanketing the scene.
Kamigyo Ward was now a ghost of itself, the once-bustling district reduced to rubble. Thick clouds of dust floated lazily through the stagnant air, the remnants of the attack's wrath. Shattered glass and debris littered the streets, the echo of destruction lingering in the distance.
For a moment, she felt frozen, her mind unable to process the scale of what had happened. Her heart raced, but her face betrayed nothing. That same calm, emotionless mask she always wore, shielding the storm inside.
She rose to her feet. Slowly, she began walking through the wasteland, each step crunching over broken concrete. Bodies of the unconscious lay scattered, civilians and policemen alike. No one else had stirred except for her.
Akame's expression remained blank, but a cold dread gnawed at her insides. She reached down and pulled aside chunks of debris with more force than usual, finding a policeman pinned beneath them. His face was pale, unconscious but breathing.
"Hang on," she murmured, almost to herself, though the man couldn't hear her. She used her strength to free him.
"If it's this bad here, then..."
"A powerful villain showed up outta nowhere. Endeavor, Edgeshot, and a few others are already on-site."
Without wasting another second, Akame bolted, chakra surging into her legs as she sprinted, her movements a blur as she leaped from one collapsing rooftop to the next. Dust and debris clung to the air, swirling in her wake as she sped toward the main battlefield.
But something was wrong. She couldn't feel them.
"Shoto! Dynamight!" Her voice cracked as she screamed into the devastation, her eyes scanning the chaos below her. The wreckage here was worse than before—whole streets obliterated, buildings reduced to jagged ruins. Smoke rose in thick, dark clouds, obscuring her vision.
No answer.
"Where are you? Shoto! Dynamight!" she yelled again, her voice growing more frantic. Her pulse raced, thundering in her ears. Still nothing. Where are they?
Akame's legs moved on their own, jumping down from a rooftop as she frantically searched through the rubble. Her heart hammered in her chest, the weight of an unfamiliar panic sinking in. She was used to keeping her emotions locked away, buried deep. But now? Now they clawed at her insides, threatening to tear her apart.
