❟❛❟ CHAPTER FORTY FOUR ❟❛❟

"AKAME! AKAME!" Dark Shadow's voice echoed through the rubble, his dark form streaking toward the black-haired girl. His shadowy arms wrapped around her protectively, his trembling form betraying his fear. "There's a monster!" he cried, his voice cracking slightly.

Akame steadied herself, her crimson eyes narrowing as she turned to Tokoyami. "A monster?" she asked, her hand instinctively rested on the hilt of her sword.

FatGum jogged over, his broad frame blotting out part of the chaos behind him. His trademark grin was intact, though his gaze swept the area, assessing the situation. "Don't sweat it. That one's just a big lump of muscle without orders. Lucky for us, his boss decided to take a personal day." He chuckled, trying to inject some levity into the tense atmosphere.

Dark Shadow slowly unraveled from Akame, his trembling subsiding. "I—it just startled me," he muttered, retreating to Tokoyami's side.

Tokoyami crossed his arms, his gaze lingering on Akame. "Don't you think this mission feels... too easy? It's going too smoothly," he asked, his voice laced with suspicion. "How could we possibly know such detailed information—secret passages, enemy placements, everything?"

A sudden rush of air and the sharp flap of wings interrupted them.

"Of course, that would be thanks to me!"

"Hawks!"

The red-winged hero landed smoothly before them, a grin playing on his lips. Without hesitation, he slung an arm around Tokoyami's shoulders. "Well, well. Didn't expect to see you here. Look at you—making me proud."

FatGum folded his arms, his grin widening. "Good to see you, Hawks. What's the status?"

Hawks released Tokoyami with a clap on his back, his expression darkening. "Strange. No sign of the League of Villains."

"Nothing at all?"

Hawks glanced at her briefly, the shift in his demeanor subtle but telling. "Not a trace. I don't get any information about them or where they are now."

Before anyone could respond, the ground beneath them trembled violently. The villa groaned as the foundation shifted, debris raining down from the collapsing structure.

"Move!" Hawks barked. In a blur of red feathers, he grabbed FatGum and launched them skyward. Tokoyami extended his wings with Dark Shadow, sweeping Akame into his arms as they ascended.

The villa courtyard was a battlefield. The clash of metal and the roar of quirks filled the air as heroes and villains collided. Ice, jagged and massive like fractured glaciers, sprawled across the yard, cutting through the chaos like frosty monuments. Akame's eyes caught Mt. Lady and Cementoss battling a towering villain in the distance, their coordinated attacks struggling to subdue the enemy.
