❟❛❟ CHAPTER FOURTY ❟❛❟

"WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR LUNCH?" Tokoyami asked as they walked out of the classroom together. "I think I'll have some udon. It's been getting colder lately, and my feathers feel... unsettled," He ran a hand down the plume of dark feathers on his head, as if to emphasize his point.

Akame glanced down at him. "I think I'll have some ramen. The spicy kind."

Tokoyami groaned, his sharp beak-like nose tilting slightly in exasperation. "Spicy again? I don't understand how your stomach isn't completely destroyed by now. You practically inhale fire."

From behind him, Dark Shadow materialized, crossing its shadowy arms over its chest. "She'll regret it one day," the spectral creature declared, wagging a clawed finger in disapproval.

Akame smirked faintly, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "I'm Chinese."

Tokoyami rolled his eyes.

As they reached the main hallway, a familiar figure emerged from the corner. Aizawa, his tired eyes framed by loose strands of dark hair, approached them. His face was unreadable, but there was a subtle weight in his posture that immediately put them on edge.

"Akame," he called. "Can I have a word with you?"

The atmosphere shifted instantly. Tokoyami glanced at Akame, his brow furrowing slightly, while Dark Shadow hovered closer, tilting its head in curiosity.

Akame nodded without hesitation. "Of course, sensei."

Leaning toward Tokoyami, she whispered. "I'm not sure how long this will take. Don't wait for me."

Tokoyami studied her for a moment before nodding. "Got it. Stay out of trouble," He gave her a small, almost playful smirk before turning on his heel. Dark Shadow waved a clawed hand at her dramatically as they walked away, its shadowy form drooping like a forlorn figure in a tragic play.

What is it this time?

Ever since the dinner at the Todoroki, Endeavor had disclosed to the authorities the League of Villains' attempted abduction of her.  That revelation had ended with her being summoned to the principal's office, where heroes, police, and commission officials interrogated her for hours. The weight of their scrutiny had been suffocating, but it was nothing compared to the uneasy awareness of invisible eyes always watching her now.

So this is what Bakugou feels like every day.

But this? This was something else entirely.

Now she stood in Tartarus, the infamous high-security prison that housed the most dangerous villains. A place few ever dared to see firsthand.
