Rays of the morning sunlight gleamed through the clouds, lighting up (Y/N)'s room as she tugged open the curtains.

She had work today but... it was so, so scary to even think about leaving the house.

Whether it would be her neighbours or her colleagues or even her own family, it felt like she could be hurt by someone at any time.

She had just finished her breakfast. Her maid uniform laid solemnly upon her bed, the clouds outside soon shrouding the light of the sun.

(Y/N) couldn't find it in her to react when there was a knock on her bedroom door.

"Can I come in?" she heard a familiar voice.

(Y/N) sighed. She could tell at breakfast today that everyone was trying to be a little more lively to bring up the mood. Even Auntie Lucien was smiling a little more now.

(Y/N) turned towards the door when it was pushed open.

"Dad," she mumbled beneath her breath.

Luca exhaled. "You should answer when I knock, you know." He shook his head with a smile.

(Y/N) rubbed her nape, that same small but guilty smile reaching her lips. "Sorry Dad. I was just... just a little zoned out."

Luca's gaze simply warmed, before he shut the door, approaching her.

"I wanted to talk to you about things," Luca stated as the two sat upon (Y/N)'s bed. "Well... more like... I want to understand what's going on in your mind right now."

(Y/N) looked away. She stared at the floor, her legs swinging at the edge of the bed.

"Can I ask you something, Dad?" she murmured. "I'm just... curious about one thing."

Luca's head tilted. "Of course."

(Y/N) pursed her lips. Not once did she meet her father's gaze.

"Did Mom know about your job..? I thought that the reason she didn't want me to learn how to fight was because her mom... died trying to fight. But... you must fight a lot," she turned to her Dad, "don't you? In dangerous fights. And... Leon told me that you're really strong too."

"It doesn't make sense... Why would Mom let you have such a job? I bet if she was alive when you came back fatally injured that one time she would tell you to quit straight away..!"

Luca stared at (Y/N) in silence. His eyebrows were slightly raised.

And then, to (Y/N)'s surprise, her father... simply burst into quiet chuckles.

"(Y/N)..." Luca giggled. His shoulders shook as he covered his mouth. (Y/N) pouted. What was so funny?

Luca heaved a breath, rubbing his hand over his face in a swift attempt to remain serious.

"Your mother wasn't... as controlling as you remember her to be," he stated simply.

(Y/N)'s eyes widened a little. 'Controlling'..?

"Do you remember when you were little, and your mother didn't want you to learn how to fight, but I would teach you while she was at work?"

(Y/N) held her chin in thought. It did sound vaguely familiar...

Luca couldn't help his smile. "Of course your mother knew about that. Even after she told you not to be friends with Kaeya and everyone... she didn't stop you from being friends with them. She just stopped taking you to the winery with her to work. The four of you still saw each other. Don't you remember?"
