2: Mist Powers and Bets

HAZEL

I woke someone electrocuting me.

I glanced up to see Jason looking at me sheepishly.

He grinned. ''Sorry Hazel. Breakfast starts in five minutes and literally nothing could wake you up''.

I tell him it's alright, and quickly get dressed, heading down to breakfast.

First target acquired.

A few weeks ago, I figured out how to control the mist so only one person could see what I wanted them to see. Now I'm going to use that against my friends.

I wait until everyone is seated, and everyone has started a causal conversation. I'm at a table with the Seven and Reyna.

I think of things from Jasons perspective. I imagine a huge, roaring tiger in the distance.

As if on cue, Jason glances at Frank, confused, before turning around.

Jason looks around at us in confusion. ''Guys, I swear I just saw like, a tiger. I don't know! It was over there''

He points behind us, to the empty strawberry fields. Leo laughs openly.

''Dude, are all those head injuries coming back to bite you? There's no tiger'' he said between laughs.

Jason shakes his head. ''I honestly don't know what happened, but for a second it felt like, real. Just uhm, ignore that''

We all laugh, and continue. Suddenly, Annabeth stands up.

''Alright, I'm getting seconds. Who's coming with?''

I stand up, and Annabeth goes up with me. Since Chiron doesn't want us to be feasting on lollies and cake for breakfast, there is a set meal for breakfast. Today there is pancakes with eggs and bacon.

I think about what I could do. It's self serve, so....

I grin. I think about Annabeths perspective and convince her today we are having waffles with hashbrowns.

I watch as Annabeth grabs some pancakes and eggs, which she hates. Thanks to my mist control, she thinks she's getting some delicious hashbrowns and waffles.

Percy notices her choice as I come back with my extra bacon. He laughs. ''Wise Girl, you don't like eggs? Or is that going to change?''

Annabeth glances down at her plate in shock, then looks at me.

''Hazel, would you like to explain why you convinced me I just got hashbrowns and waffles?''

The whole table turns to stare at me in confusion. I should have realised that I was doing too much at a time- as a daughter of Athena, Annabeth probably suspected me the moment Jason told us about the tiger.

I explain my powers to them, and Jason puts a hand over his heart.

''Hazel, I feel incredibly hurt that I was your first victim''

We erupt into laughs.

PERCY

Unfortunately, soon enough it is time for us to leave. Reyna, Frank, and Hazel are going back to California next week, but for now, I, Annabeth, and Leo are going back to New York. Leo is going to stay the night with us at Sallys house before moving into his apartment with his roommate Lexi on Sunday.

I wake up early on Saturday morning to the annoying beeping of my alarm. I glance at my suitcase at the door. This time I managed to pack properly, so I actually know what is inside it.

I wheel the suitcase into the dining pavilion. Annabeth is already there talking to Jason and Piper. I sit down, and I see Reyna, Frank, and Hazel come into view as the slowly come into view of the big house.

Suddenly, they begin to speed up and Reyna barrels into the table.

'' I WIN'' She shouts. Hazel and Frank proceed to tie for second, and then they all sit down.

About five minutes later, Leo rushes out of his cabin and takes a seat, gasping and panting.

''Sorry guys! I realised I forgot to pack, and then I had to do that this morning and now I'm late so that's amazing but hi!''

We shake our heads and Jason passes Annabeth 5 drachmas sneakily. Piper doesn't even try to hide it as she slides 20 across the table. Hazel and Reyna give me a grand total of 30 drachmas. Frank gives Jason 12.

Then I realise something.

''LETS GO! I FINALLY GOT MORE MONEY IN A BET THAN ANNABETH DID!''

Leo looks confused.

Annabeth grins. '"Well, last night after you went to the Hephastus cabin to see Harleys new invention, we decided to make a bet on who would be last to the table. I said you would and Piper and Jason bet me that I would be wrong, which was a stupid decision guys. Hazel and Reyna betted with Percy that he would be last, and since they were wrong they had to pay up.''

Leo shakes his head. ''And I call you guys my friends!''
