A puff of breath broke through the cold air of Scotland as a young woman walked urgently up the street. The woman, with long brunette hair that flowed past her shoulders and was often tied up, didn't like the cold. She never had and it was evident by the think coat she wore and the gloves on her hands. She kept her head down as she walked, though a few people glanced at her.
They'd double-take but then shake their heads at themselves.
The American, Avalyn Stark, wouldn't be in Scotland, let alone walking. Everyone knew she ran.
Life had gotten a little too much for her, the orders she was constantly under or the inability to keep a teenager safe. She'd always tried to save everyone else and she needed the time to herself again.
Peter had fended for himself in the end, even without the suit. She didn't quite believe it when her father told her that he'd stopped the Vulture from stealing Stark equipment, even without his suit. She supposed she actually took their words on board.
Perhaps he'd make quite the hero after all.
"Avalyn?"
The voice was soft, disbelieving in fact, as it echoed in the empty room. It wasn't the voice Avalyn had wanted to hear...not the one she'd sent her note to but it was a voice she'd missed none-the-less.
"Hello, Steve."
"I should have known it was you," Steve Rogers grinned, bringing her into a hug. "Are you alone?"
"Alone. No one knows I'm here. Mom just knows I'm with Pietro," Avalyn nodded. "I'm really glad to see you."
"Pietro got a note to meet him here, thought it would be better if we checked it out first," Another voice spoke, moving to Steve's side. "What's up, Ava?"
"The sky, Nat," Avalyn chuckled.
Natasha Romanoff embraced the girl who'd grown into a woman. When everything had gone down at the airport, Natasha had been outrunning the government for her disobedience. Avalyn should have known she'd find Steve.
"I know the note was a little cryptic but I didn't want anyone finding it, like housekeeping," Avalyn shrugged. "It was supposed to be a surprise."
"Probably not a good thing to 'surprise' someone on the run," Natasha joked, throwing an arm around her shoulders. "But c'mon, let's do so."
"Want a lift?" Avalyn smirked, grabbing their hands.
As though she was in a vacuum, Natasha and Steve blinked to see themselves in the hotel room with pressure on their chest. They'd never ran with Avalyn before and the sensation was...new to them.
"How'd you know he was here?" Steve questioned.
"Burner phone, he'd told me about a store he'd visited. Wasn't hard to track him from there."
"Smart."
"Thank you, it's the genes," Avalyn winked.
"Last time I saw you, you weren't this cocky," Natasha pointed out, knocking Pietro's door a certain way.
"I've been baby-sitting a web-swinging teenager, I've learnt a thing or two," Avalyn shrugged. "Got comfortable, I suppose."
Avalyn's anticipation grew as she bounced on her toes, eagerly awaiting Pietro to open the door. Time seemed to stretch on endlessly before he finally did, and in that moment, the entire world quite literally slowed down. Whenever the two speedsters found themselves together, it felt as if time itself had been tamed, as they both moved at a speed no one else could match, creating a private, surreal speed tunnel just for the two of them.
"Princessa, I missed you," Pietro mumbled as he held her close.
"I missed you too," Avalyn replied softly. "Suprise."
The two broke away from their hug, sharing a deep kiss before retaking their positions in the normal speed world. Steve and Natasha shared a glance at Avalyn pink cheeks and let out chuckles, leaving the two of them alone.
"The note was a stupid idea," Avalyn admitted as she walked into the hotel room. "I thought it would be cute but then I realised that I would have found it odd too."
"You could have just told me you were coming," Pietro smirked.
"There's no fun in that." Avalyn paused for a moment. "Truth be told, I only planned this 24 hours ago because I've had a horrible few weeks. I can't do this life without you, it sucks."
"Then don't leave," Pietro begged. "Stay here, with me."
"I can't, not forever," Avalyn whispered. "I still have responsibilities and people back home, Pietro. I just need to work out a balance."
"For the sanity of us both, you better," Pietro wrapped her arms around you.
"But for a few weeks, I'm all yours," Avalyn pointed out. "I love you."
"I love you too, Princessa. Now and always."
