"It's one hell of a drug
Love left me like this and I don't want to exist
So take me to Florida" - Taylor Swift ft Florence Wench
"They call them the 'Housewife Killer'," Penelope says, as she flashes to the crime scene photo. The lady is sprawled out on the floor dressed as if she came out of Pleasantville.
"So the unsub is dressing these women to live out some sort of fantasy," Emily says as she looks at the woman in a poodle skirt dress.
"Not only that, he... oh I can't finish, you can look and see!" Penelope says as she turns away from the screen. The unsub guts the women down the stomach and has their guts spilling out.
"He is sadistic, for sure," Derek says as he looks at the multiple crime scene photo.
"Why are we being called down here?" Aaron says looking up from the file to JJ.
"The unsub has killed 4 women in the past 2 months," She says as Penelope
flashes from one crime scene photo to the next. All these women had their hair cut short, curled, placed so perfectly that it could be an actual picture from the 50s, their clothes were all pastel checkered dresses, that had blood staining all the sides and the direct middle.
"Every two weeks he drops the body and finds a new woman to take in and torture," Mary added as she closed her file and tapped her pen on the paper in her notebook. Aaron sighs as he gets up from his seat.
"Wheels up in 30," he says as he walks out of the room. Penelope quickly leaves the round table, and scurries to her 'cave' as she calls it.
Mary waits as Rossi nods his head towards the door that Aaron walked out of. Mary puts on a passive smile before gathering her belongings and walking to Aaron's office. He's pacing his room on the phone as Mary knocks on the door.
"Come in," he says, as he aggressively types something on his phone. Mary closes the door behind her as Aaron moves to his desk.
"What do you need?" he asks as he grabs his go-bag and moves files around on his desk. Something the old Aaron would never do, he would always make it his job to look at whomever he was talking to, yet there he was, almost too busy to look up at Mary.
"Is everything ok?" That caught his attention, he freezes for a second before continuing.
"Everything is fine. We have a case."
"I know we have a case, but your demeanor is the same throughout. Something is up, so spill it," Mary says, crossing her arms in front of herself. She hates conversations that are one-sided as it makes her feel like a child rather than the successful woman she is.
"Nothing is up. We don't have time to banter. Gather your belongings for the case," he says with a more forceful tone.
"Aaron..." Aaron took a deep breath, dropping whatever was in his hands and looking over at Mary.
"Marjorie," he says as he crosses his arm. The room switches from an average office to the wild, wild west. They both face each other with a look that could kill. Both arms cross almost like they are reaching for their pistols.
"What. Is. Wrong." Mary, the first to talk, says looking at Aaron.
"Nothing." Aaron says nonchalantly, acting as if he was bored.
"Then why are you being a dick all of the sudden?"
"Why is that any of your concern?"
"Because I have to work with you!" Mary says, dropping her arms to her side. "Aaron... we used to be close, you know you can tell me anything, right?"
Aaron drops his arms too, looking over at Mary, as he takes shallow breaths. Just the look on Mary's face could kill him. He's been lying to himself for long enough and now he was lying straight to his friends face.
"Hayley moved out of the house, she took Jack and... she filed this-" Aaronsays opening his top drawer, pulling out a long yellow envelope "-Asking for a divorce... three weeks ago."
"Oh Aaron.."
"I've signed it. Gave everything to her. I'm just... over it." Aaron says with a frown. He truly was over it. He knew his marriage was over for a while and after finding out about Hayley's affair with her old coworker Trent McDavis he knew she didn't love him. He learnt to love her, but even his subconscious knew they wouldn't last.
He always blamed the late hours on all the work he had to complete, yet even when Mary took the job as assistant unit chief and the work became divided and finished even early. He still took it upon himself to clean up the coffee pot, or organize the printer room, and forward emails.
One night he even read through all 3,000 spam emails he had in order to go home a little bit later. He wasn't trying to be cruel but the feeling of going home brought guilt to him, as if he couldn't breath being in that home.
When Hayle moved out leaving a note, he wanted his son. Once he got to his sister-in-law's house and saw Hayley he felt nothing. Some mutual respect and as if he saw a good friend, but the butterflies and love he once had was completely gone.
"I'm so sorry, that's horrible," Mary says to him, as she rubs his arm. Aaron, who got lost in thought, didn't realize Mary walked over to him, so close she could touch him. Yet, he didn't mind Mary being close, and the touch sparked fireworks that he felt since the first time they met.
"It truly doesn't mean anything I knew it was going to happen, it just... happened," he says shrugging looking at Mary who had a sympathetic smile.
"Well.. let's celebrate or mourn! I'm going to your house and I'm gonna cook. Sounds good?" She says with a bright smile on her face. Aaron, who can never stop himself from smiling when she is around, looks at her.
"Sounds great." Mary lets out a little laugh before turning and leaving out of the office.
"After the case," she says as she walks down the hall. Aaron stares at the signed envelope and puts it in his bag. It's about time he opens himself for new beginnings.
