66. Expected and Unexpected Endgames

"What's that supposed to fucking mean?"

Gun took her left wrist gently. He brought out a tiny charm and used his teeth to fasten on a gold chain link to permanently attach it to her wrist, just like he had done with the bracelet all that time ago. (ch. 43. Danger)

YN inspected it. Like before, he had squeezed the chain shut so that it was permanent. The charm was a slender wooden disc, with carvings so small and delicate she almost couldn't see them. In the middle, there were four lines pointing to a big circle that resembled the sun, and underneath were some Japanese characters. Circling the disc were two elaborately carved wooden dragons. They were similar, but not identical... were they hand carved? Why would Gun give her a hand carved charm? And one so tiny and elaborate?

"If you want to truly be free, you'd better get on Choi's good books. You're too rebellious and disagreeable. And getting on his good side means getting on mine first. Good luck princess. I need you for a job soon." He leaned over her and pushed the passenger door open.

YN was pretty pissed at his vagueness, but she knew she wasn't getting any answers. At least she was getting set free.

She stepped out and Gun waved before speeding off. She hoped the car would fail and crash because of the steep slope. That would solve like almost all of her problems.

She hoped that idiot got lung cancer from all his stupid smoking...

"Thank god you're okay," Eli sighed, squeezing her into a hug. He had rushed to the fashion department first thing the next day.

YN hugged him back gratefully. "Yeah I think Gun was just trying to scare me. He just dropped me at home, but I've made a deal with him."

"How does he know where you live??"

"Uh, I'm sure he has ways of finding out." Crystal had probably told him because Choi had requested it. "Are you guys all okay? Is Yenna okay?"

"Yes, we're all fine, come back with us YN."

YN frowned. She wanted nothing more than to be with family, be it Hostel or Big Deal. But Gun was an ever looming threat. "You know I can't."

Eli, afterall, was a dad above anything else. And he would put his kid's safety first. He frowned also. "Fine." He didn't have much choice but to accept it. "I'm going to tell the J High boys about what Gun was saying about the four major crews. Hostel is out, but clearly they're in pretty deep."

When the boys had arrived, they gathered around YN's desk as Eli began to speak. He recounted the story of Hostel, and the tragedy of Heather and Olly Wang. "Honestly, The current four major crews might've been Gun's own poison. Because from what I've seen, Gun didn't seem to be interested in the four major crews at all," he finished, hitching his backpack higher on his shoulder as he prepared to leave.

"So why are you telling us this?" Zack asked.

"Just in case it helps, since you guys said you wanted to destroy the four major crews." Eli paused, then lower his head to press a kiss on YN's forehead. "I love you," he whispered. "There shouldn't be tragedies anymore. I'm off." And he was gone to the beauty department.
