When they got to his apartment, Lucas opened the door, a sign falling off in the process.
'NOTICE TO PAY RENT OR QUIT'
"Welcome home," Nathan sighed, hopping into the apartment.
Lucas picked up the notice, bringing it inside as Emiliana and Nathan sat down at the kitchen counter, Lucas following suit as he handed the notice to Nathan.
Nathan groaned as he picked up his mail, flipping through the stack. "Bill. Bill. Final notice. Way final notice." Nathan shook his head. "Either of you ever robbed a bank?"
"Hey, you got friends. We'll help," Lucas assured him.
Emiliana put her hands on Nathan's shoulders, gently massaging them. "Yeah, we'll do whatever we can to help."
"Yeah, that sounds great. All I need is the money for these bills and, uh, a hundred thousand dollars to pay the hospital," Nathan sighed, looking at the stack of letters.
"Wow, woulda been a lot cheaper if you'd just hit the brakes, huh?" Lucas said pointedly. "What happened out there, Nathan?"
Lucas had told Emiliana that after the accident, he and the others who had witnessed the crash, noticed that there weren't any brake marks on the track from when Nathan hit the wall.
Everyone knows that Nathan has strong reflexes, so they were left to wonder if Nathan hitting the wall was intentional, considering he didn't seem to try to save himself.
Emiliana hadn't had the courage to talk to Nathan about it. She wasn't sure if she wanted to know the truth about the accident. If she found out that he did it on purpose, she wouldn't know how to handle that.
The only person who would bring it up was Lucas, though every time Nathan would get defensive about it.
"You were there. Why don't you tell me?" Nathan remarked.
"Look, did you, you know, feel like," Lucas sighed, "I mean, did you wanna-"
"Did I wanna what?" Nathan interrupted sharply.
"Kill yourself," he finished, pain in his eyes. Emiliana took a sharp inhale as she looked at Nathan, who was glaring at Lucas. "'Cause, if that's what happened, you need to see somebody."
