A forgotten speech, a spilled glass, the right words said by the wrong person. In the blink of an eye, the magic fades, and they're left standing amidst a beautiful disaster, wondering if maybe the day wasn't theirs to control after all. Maybe, just maybe, perfection isn't in the plans, but in how they handle the unexpected.
The morning of the wedding, Emiliana's house was buzzing with wedding prep chaos. Brooke, who'd stayed over after the rehearsal party, was in full rant mode, venting about Peyton's confession of still having feelings for Lucas. Emiliana, regretting her well-meaning but poorly timed invitation to Peyton to join them, attempted to keep the peace while Brooke paced, ranting in a full spectrum of emotions.
Emiliana took a breath and tried to ease the tension. "So... still mad?" she asked, almost teasing. Brooke rolled her eyes, continuing without missing a beat.
"I'm just over it, Em. I mean, every time we're happy, Peyton reappears with her 'Lucas feelings,' like it's a broken record," Brooke groaned, rummaging through her makeup bag more aggressively than necessary.
Emiliana half-laughed, half-sighed. "Look, I know you're mad, but maybe talk it out—calmly, if possible?" Brooke gave her a look as if that suggestion was a personal betrayal. Just then, the doorbell chimed, announcing Peyton's arrival.
Emiliana winced. She turned to Brooke. "Okay... I might have invited Peyton over before I knew there'd be beef." Brooke's jaw dropped, and Emiliana quickly added, "It was supposed to be a friendly wedding day, not a battle zone!"
As Peyton walked in, Emiliana made a quick escape. "You two work it out—I'll be with my parents."
Downstairs, she found her dad adjusting his bowtie and her mom fastening her earrings, both ready for the wedding. They glanced up as Emiliana entered the kitchen, eyes widening as they heard Brooke's voice carry from the upstairs bedroom. Her dad raised an eyebrow. "Please tell me there's no brawl over the flower arrangements," he joked.
Emiliana rolled her eyes, pouring herself some coffee. "It's not the flowers. It's Lucas—again." She gave an exasperated sigh. "I mean, every few months, it's like they hit rewind, and we're back to square one with this triangle."
Elizabeth gave Emiliana a knowing smile. "Ah, young love. It's never boring, that's for sure." She raised her coffee mug in mock toast. "Here's to being on the outside of it this time."
Her dad chuckled, patting Emiliana on the shoulder. "Good thing Haley's marrying a guy today, huh? Can you imagine how many triangles we'd be balancing otherwise?"
Emiliana grinned despite herself, but her focus drifted back to the sounds from upstairs. "At this rate, they're gonna need more than a wedding to mend fences."
