7. Come Home

Chapter 7: Come Home - One Republic (ft. Sara Bareilles)

I rush into her room to see several nurses and doctors around her. I stop and slowly walk up to the closest nurse and clear my throat to get her attention.

"Oh no! You can't be in here yet. She isn't done being evaluated."

"I know. I'm sorry it's just that I'm her boyfriend and she was attacked by a jealous ex. I only just found out and I need to stay with her. Please." I beg. The nurse sighs and glances back at Elaine who was laying on the bed unconscious covered in bruises.

"All right but only if you sit on the couch and stay silent until we are done evaluating her. We'll talk with you once we are finished." I thank her and sit on the couch that was located next to her bed. The doctors talked amongst themselves quietly and scribbled things on their clipboards. To pass the time I take out my phone and text everyone saying that she was alright. Finally the head doctors approached me and pulled me out into the hall.

"So Elaine seems to be totally fine. She was hit pretty hard knocking her unconscious. Her vitals are perfectly normal. She's recovering slowly and we gave her some medication to help ease her pain. Once she leaves just Advil will help. That and time. She is suffering from a very mild concussion. It's nothing serious at all but she will be a tad bit disoriented for a couple days so take it easy. Other than that she is very lucky to have done so well. However she sustains past bruising and injuries all over her body so I'm hoping its-"

"Oh sir I can assure you I would never hit her. It's from the man that attacked her. That's why she left but unfortunately I couldn't help her from this." She reaches her hand out and pats my arm.

"Sweetie it is not your fault at all. If anything you saved her life. Remember that." I nod and walk back into the room to see Elaine sleeping peacefully hooked up to many wires and with an oxygen tube hooked up to her nose. I stand at her side and observe every inch of her that was visible. A sigh formed from my mouth as I examine each bruise and cut that lived on her skin. Lastly I looked at her more recent bruise that placed her here. It was disgusting to think that such a person would lay a hand on any girl. My phone rings and I open it to see Eddie calling.

"Hello?"

"Hey it's me. I'm waiting outside. Let's go to the store really fast and get some food for the house. I'll take you home and let you rest for a bit. She probably won't be up for a while."

"No! I'm staying with her no matter what. I need to be there when she wakes." I hear him sigh loudly and I can practically picture him removing his glasses and pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration.

"Fine. But please help me run errands. We'll go home and pack a bag for you to stay the night and a bag for her in the morning."

"Sounds good. I'll be down in a minute." I hang up and kiss the top of her forehead before leaving and shutting the door behind me. I check out from the front desk and tell the clerk I would be returning to stay the night with her. The clerk nods and gives me a bracelet that would work to unlock Elaine's door after visiting hours. I put the bracelet on then walk out.

After running pointless errands with Eddie and packing Elaine a bag which I thought was very cute if I do say so myself. I finally returned to the hospital changed and showered. Now I could spend time with the girl who stole my heart and be there when she wakes up. I glance at the clock and read 9 pm. I shoot Eddie a quick text to plan something for Elaine tomorrow. I then grab her hand and sit at her bedside. I didn't realize how tired I was until my eyes drooped and my head was practically forced to rest on the side of the bed. I keep my eyes on her while I can and feel the warm tears slip down my cheeks as I silently cry myself into slumber.
