Chapter 54: Confrontation

Ace Zachariel Delice POV

In the middle of the chaos, Chancellor Asmodeus's voice echoed through the smoke-filled battlefield. "So... you’re the fools trying to save her," he sneered, stepping out from behind his soldiers. He looked unaffected by the mayhem around us, as if everything was playing out exactly how he wanted.

“Cover me,” I barked at Shawn and Zywon as I stood up and faced him.

“Tama na ‘to,” I said through gritted teeth. My hands tightened around my gun as I aimed it directly at Asmodeus.

“Really?” he smirked. “You think you can stop me, Ace? You're nothing but a nuisance—an annoying fly buzzing around things you’ll never understand.”

I clenched my jaw, taking a step closer, but kept my aim steady. “I don’t care what you think, Asmodeus. You're the one behind all this chaos, all this bloodshed. But it ends now.”

His chuckle was dark, almost amused. “You speak as if you have any real power here. Do you even know why I want that girl so badly?” His voice was laced with malice, his eyes narrowing at me. “Allison Veron… The last of her bloodline.”

I remained silent, keeping my focus on him, but the knot in my stomach tightened. His words weren’t surprising—what mattered was stopping him.

“You see, Ace,” he continued, stepping closer. “The Verons were never meant to rule the Underground. That bloodline is tainted, born from commoners and bastards.” His voice dripped with contempt. “My family was the rightful heir to this empire before her bloodline stole everything from us.”

His soldiers began to form a line behind him, their guns raised, but none of them dared to fire without his command.

“You’ll never get to her,” I said coldly. “Even if she’s down right now, we’ll protect her.”

He laughed—a cruel, bone-chilling sound. “Oh, Ace, it’s not just about taking her life. You’re so naive.” He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a whisper. “Her blood… creates the perfect antidote to the drug we’ve been developing. The Ultimatinum. That’s why I need her. And once I have her blood, she’ll be of no use to me—just like the rest of you.”

My heart raced, the weight of his words crashing down on me. *So all this time ay siya ang nasa likod ng pagkawala ng mga estudyante sa Sapphire*. My fists clenched around my weapon even tighter. "You’re sick," I spat out.

"Sick?" he tilted his head. "Or simply... visionary? With her blood, we can control not just this empire, but the entire Underground world. Power you couldn’t even imagine, Ace."

I could hear the gunfire around me, but it was distant now, like background noise. My focus was on Asmodeus and the twisted game he was playing. "You’re delusional if you think you can take her."

Zywon shouted behind me, "Ace, we need to push back now! They’re closing in!"

But I didn’t move. I kept my eyes locked on Asmodeus. "You won’t get the chance."

He raised an eyebrow, almost mocking me. “We’ll see about that.”

I signaled to Shawn with a subtle nod. He understood instantly, firing off a few rounds to keep the advancing forces at bay. I couldn’t let Asmodeus get to her. Allison’s life—and the fate of everyone here—depended on it.

Asmodeus took a step forward, clearly not fazed by the bullets flying around us. He looked at me with a twisted smile. "The moment I take her, everything changes. This world becomes mine. You can’t stop the inevitable, Ace."

The hatred boiled inside me. He had taken enough from us. He had caused too much pain already. *No more.*

“No more games, Asmodeus. This ends here,” I growled, moving toward him, but then—

“ACE! LOOK OUT!” Shawn’s voice rang through the air just as I heard the distinct click of a gun cocking from behind me.

In a split second, I spun around and fired, taking down the soldier aiming at my back. But I knew this was far from over. The final confrontation was here, and we had to make every shot count.

I turned back to Asmodeus, his grin still plastered across his face, and raised my weapon but before I could even fire a shot at him, nauna na siyang barilin ako.

“Let’s finish this, Ace," he said habang tinutok ang baril saakin. Kasabay ng putok nito ay ang pagluhod ko sa sahig.

The pain was instant, sharp, but I couldn’t afford to stop now. “You think that’s enough to stop me?” I muttered through gritted teeth.

Asmodeus walked closer, towering above me. "Pathetic," he said, cocking his head. “All this effort… all for nothing. Your precious Allison will fall into my hands, and there's nothing you can do.”

I fought to stay conscious, to not let the darkness take over, pero nararamdaman ko na ang pagkapagod at panlalambot ng aking katawan. Sa kabila ng lahat, I still saw the fight unfolding around me—Shawn and Zywon were still pushing the soldiers back, not giving up.

But I couldn’t let it end here.

With all the strength I had left, I lifted my gun and fired at Asmodeus.

The bullet hit him square in the leg, knocking him off balance. He cursed, clutching his leg, but the fury in his eyes burned brighter than ever. "You’ll regret that," he hissed.

I forced myself to stand, my entire body screaming in pain. “I’m not done yet,” I said, barely audible. “We won’t let you win.”

Asmodeus aimed his gun again, but before he could fire, another shot rang out—this time, it wasn’t from me.

Allison, bloody and barely able to stand is standing at the back pointing her gun in our direction, she had somehow managed to lift her own weapon and fire at him.

"You’ll never take me," she whispered, her voice weak but determined.

Asmodeus stumbled back, clearly shocked that she was still alive, still fighting.

"How…?" He tried to speak, but Allison's shot had found its mark.

She collapsed to the floor beside me, and I reached out to steady her.

Together, we watched as Asmodeus fell to his knees, his empire crumbling around him.

It was over.

The sound of gunfire began to slowly fade, and the enemy forces slowly retreated ng maramdaman nila ang unti unting pagpasok ng mga lalaking naka asul na uniform and realizing their leader had fallen. The battle for our lives—and the empire—had come to a brutal, bloody end.

"Sorry we're late" said by Allison's brother Ashton and kneeled infront of us and look at Allison. He flashed a small smile to me and Pat my shoulders, a sign that everything is done, and now, we have survived.
