"I was thinking of this one. What do you think?" I asked, leaning over to show
Chote Papa the images on the MacBook.Chote Papa adjusted his glasses, scrolling through the product details. A few minutes passed before he finally nodded. "Hmm, looks good," he said.
"Golu, we-," Adhira's voice cut through the air, halting mid sentence. She had walked into the room, her eyes immediately falling onto Chote Papa sitting beside me.
I coughed, shifting uncomfortably in my seat. My gaze flickered between her and Chote Papa, who was doing everything he could to hide the smile.
"Book this one then, Golu." Chote Papa
said before getting up from the sofa and taking his leave from the living room.I let out a quiet, deep breath, setting the MacBook aside on the table, and looked up at her to notice her a little embarrassed.
I got up, my steps quickening as I followed her into the hallway. Her face was drawn
in concern as she fidget with the ring in her finger."Kya hua?" I asked, my hands instinctively reaching out to catch hers.
"I didn't know Chote Papa was here." She said, a slight pout forming on her lips.
"That's fine," I pecked her pout, only to earn a smack on my chest. "What are you doing?"
"Pyaar." I muttered shamelessly, unable to hold back the smile that followed, noticing her red cheeks.
"Acha, mujhe aapse kuch baat karni hai," She said and started to pull me with her into the kitchen, her hand clasped in mine.
Walking into the kitchen, I found Mukti, Kabir and Veer already gathered there, talking quietly among themselves.
"What's going on?" I asked, noticing how they were huddled together.
"We are planning a surprise for Maa." Mukti said, looking up first.
"Yes," Adhira turned to face me, "and we
decided you and I will cook dinner, while Mukti and Veer will handle decorating the living room."I glanced at Kabir, who was sitting with a spoonful of Rajma Chawal halfway to his mouth. "Aur yeh gadha kya karega?"
Kabir looked up, unfazed, and shrugged with his usual sarcastic tone. "Yeh gadha aap sabko monitor karega." He replied, shoving another bite into his mouth.
"Bhai," Veer, standing by the counter, added, "he'll be in charge of bringing the cake and gifts."
"Hmm," Adhira nodded beside me, "and
we already asked Chote Papa to take Choti Maa out for a while.""And you really think she won't figure it out?" I asked.
"She doesn't even know it's Mother's Day today." Kabir replied, getting up to place
his plate into the sink. These were the days I missed her more. Days like this, where her absence wasn't just a quiet ache but a heavy presence that filled my heart.
