"What do you mean he's in real trouble now?" She demanded.
Percy was looking through files and pictures.
"It means he's the next target. A serial killer is after him. My, friends, ex-wife-"
"I know why she left him," Piper muttered.
Percy laughed, even though he didn't know why she hated him so much, "As I was saying, she was the last victim. She left the initials LV in blood and we thought that was the killer. We connected them to Leo, that's why we arrested him. Now that I'm going over the evidence," he scanned some photos, "We cam see that some lf the other victims left initials of the next victim too. Now that you found a death threat, it all makes sense now! You may have saved your friends life, if he was charged it would've been a death sentence. And if you didn't find the note, the killer could've caught him."
"Um, what are we gonna do about Leo?" She asked.
"We?" He asked, "oh you are not-"
"I found the note, my best friend is the next target, you can't stop me from helping this investigation," she told him.
Percy was silent like he was debating what to do. Piper glared at him and eventually scared him into letting her.
"Fine, but please don't lash out at him again," he pleaded.
"No promises," she told him.
He sighed.
"What did he do to you?" He asked.
"Remember those girls he pushed into the mud every time it rained? Remember those girls whose lockers he put a stink bomb in? Remember those girls who he always pulled their chairs out from behind them in histort class? The girls whose winter jackets he tied to the flagpole in the middle of winter, and gave them pneumonia? The girls he and his buddies always tried to set up with the stupid, gross, and or ugly guys? Remember them?" She said calmly but bitterly.
"Did you know them?"
"I was one of them," she said, "Those girls, were me and my sister Lacey."
"And you've been holding this petty gruge for-" he started.
"My sister and I went to college together, I wasn't picked on as much because I got out of my awkward stage in senior year. Lacey didn't. Guys like him kept picking on her. I tried to get them to stop, but it was too late. One day Lacey was chasing some boys who took her diary and started filming themselves read it out loud so they could send it to the entire campus," Piper fought back tears, "Lacey chased them across a busy street. A drunk ran a red light hit her. She died on impact. All because of those stupid jerks. If they never took her diary she woukd probably still be here. They never caught the driver and the boys still sent the video. They were never suspended or expelled. Jason was the first of those many jerks. The boys who got Lacey killed were two of his friends from high school. He taught then how to be jerks like that. He led them to act like that. He is the main reason she's dead. If he was never a jerk those two guys wouldn't be either. If those two guys weren't jerks Lacey wouldn't have ran i to the street. If she didn't ru into the street she would still be here!" Piper felt terrible. She wanted to scream, cry, or punch something, but she held back our tears.
Lacey, her little sister. Piper had to protect and love her when no one else would. Piper tried her hardest. She couldn't save the most important person to her in the end.
Piper took out her locket from under the front of her dress. She opened it up and looked at her smiling sister. This was the last present Lacey ever gave to Piper. The day before she died Piper had given her a bew charm bracelet. Lacey gave her the locket before the boys stole her diary.
Percy looked stunned.
"Look Piper I'm sorry-"
"No don't be sorry. You did nothing, and I have to move on. Leo helped Lacey and I get through tough times. I've already lost her and I can't lose him. Don't throw me a pity party, I don't need one," she told him.
"Oh, okay," he said, "let's get Leo to saf-"
Just then he barged in.
"Leo's gone," he said.
