Mr. Raymond stayed by my side for hours, his expression filled with concern. He couldn't help but remark on my youth and beauty, wondering aloud how someone so lovely could face such hardships.
"My dear, you're so young and beautiful; it's heartbreaking to see you suffer,"
He said, his voice gentle.
My phone buzzed again, with another call from Justina, but Mr. Raymond wisely refrained from answering, not wanting to arouse unnecessary worry.
Hours passed, and I slowly regained consciousness. Mr. Raymond had arranged for his driver to bring me dinner, and he encouraged me to eat.
"The doctor said you fainted from skipping meals, stress, and overthinking,"
He explained, his tone caring.
"Please, for your mother's sake, take care of yourself. Eat well and stay safe."
As I attempted to speak, Mr. Raymond lovingly interrupted,
"Not a word until you finish your plate."
I tried again, but he firmly yet kindly warned,
"No talking, just eat."
Resigned, I focused on consuming the little food I could manage. After taking a sip of water, I asked if I could speak, and Mr. Raymond replied,
"Rest first, digest what you've eaten."
I nodded, feeling grateful for his kindness and concern.
Mr. Raymond's thoughtfulness enveloped me, providing comfort during a difficult time.
"I'm so sorry for stressing you out, and I'm incredibly grateful for saving my life,"
I said, my head bowed in appreciation.
Mr. Raymond's expression softened.
"No need to apologize; anyone would have done what I did. And I'm grateful I could save your life once more."
"For your mum, I'm sure she'll be fine,"
He continued, his voice reassuring.
"You focus on your studies and pass your exam. That's what she'd want."
I sighed, feeling overwhelmed.
"My exam is just days away, and I haven't studied. I usually read with my mum beside me, but now it's impossible. I can't focus without her..."
My voice cracked, and a tear escaped.
Mr. Raymond swiftly sat beside me, our eyes locking. He gently wiped away my tear with his thumb.
"Don't cry,"
He whispered.
"You're intelligent, brilliant, and stunning. I'm sure you'll excel again. Trust me, your mum will be fine."
I grasped his hand, my voice filled with longing.
"Can you do me a favor?"
"What is it?"
He asked, his eyes filled with concern.
"Please help me convince my aunt to let me study beside my mum, just once. She's the reason I understand what I read. Without her, it's impossible for me to focus."
