Just after the cake-cutting ceremony, Micheal grasped my hand, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Come on, let's get you wet!"
He exclaimed, playfully dragging me toward the pool.
I laughed, trying to resist.
"Micheal, I'm not in the mood."
Micheal's persuasive grin won me over.
"Come on, it'll be fun! We can relive our inner kids."
Before I knew it, I was splashing into the pool alongside Micheal. Justina was engrossed in a video call with Alex, oblivious to our antics.
As we frolicked in the water, I felt a carefree joy I hadn't experienced since my childhood summer holidays in the US, 13 years ago. Micheal's infectious laughter and playful teasing brought out the kid in me.
After our exhilarating pool escapades, Micheal guided me to the pool's edge, where we sat together, my legs dangling in the water. He positioned himself before me, his eyes shining with warmth.
"Smile,"
He said, snapping a photo of me with his phone.
I giggled, taking a selfie with him.
"You're ridiculous."
Micheal chuckled.
"That's why you love me."
Our playful banter continued as we took turns capturing silly photos. Micheal made silly faces, and I couldn't help but laugh.
"What's your favorite memory from the past year?"
Micheal asked, his tone turning thoughtful.
I pondered, smiling.
"This moment, right now. I haven't felt this carefree in ages."
Micheal's expression softened.
"I'm glad I could bring that out in you."
As we sat together, the pool's tranquil water lapping at our legs, our connection felt effortless.
Justina's laughter carried over from her video call, and I smiled.
"Looks like Justina's having a great time with Alex."
Micheal nodded.
"Love is in the air."
Our eyes met, and for a fleeting moment, I sensed a deeper connection between us.
Micheal broke the silence, his voice laced with humor.
"Ready to make more memories?"
I grinned, feeling a sense of belonging.
"Always."
As the night wore on, our laughter and conversation flowed, creating unforgettable moments.
I continued to visit my mum in the ICU, pouring my heart out to her.
"Mum, it's been so hard without you. I promise I won't let the person who did this to you go unpunished."
Meanwhile, Miss Faith relentlessly pursued the truth about her brother's death, 12 years ago. She scoured the internet, researching the disease that supposedly took his life. But the more she learned, the more convinced she became that something was amiss.
