I arrived at Raymond's house for dinner, still wary of his intentions. But as we sat down to eat, I was touched by the genuine care in his eyes. He treated me with a tenderness that surpassed his usual affection towards his fiancée, Rachel.
As we dined, Raymond asked if I was feeling uncomfortable. I shook my head, hesitant to reveal my true concerns.
"To be honest, Raymond, I don't think I can keep this child,"
I confessed, my voice barely above a whisper.
"I know nothing about it."
Raymond's expression shifted, his eyes clouding with a mix of guilt and responsibility.
"Please, reconsider,"
He urged, his tone low and persuasive. "Keep the child until it's born. It's crucial."
I narrowed my eyes, sensing a hidden truth.
"Raymond, do you have something to do with this child?"
I asked point-blank.
He evaded my question, his smile forced.
"Let's eat and forget about this conversation for now."
Just as I pressed for answers, my hand slipped, sending the glass cup crashing to the floor. Juice splashed onto my shirt, and I shrieked at the sudden chill.
Raymond sprang into action, rushing to my side with a tissue paper.
"Let me help,"
He said softly, gently dabbing at the stain.
His touch sent shivers down my spine. The care in his eyes was unmistakable.
"Thank you,"
I whispered, my confusion deepening.
Raymond's hands gently cradled my knee, his touch sending a flutter through my chest. He carefully cleaned and bandaged the small cut, his eyes locked on mine.
Just as he finished, the door swung open and Rachel walked in, her expression a mix of surprise and unease.
"Raymond, what's going on?"
She asked, her voice tinged with tension.
Raymond's hands swiftly dropped from my knee, and he stood up, a guilty flush rising to his cheeks.
"Rachel, I was just...helping our guest with a minor injury,"
He stammered.
Rachel's gaze darted from Raymond to me, her eyes narrowing.
"I didn't know we had company,"
She said, her tone icy.
I felt a surge of discomfort, sensing the tension between them.
"Rachel, please, it's not what it looks like,"
Raymond assured, taking a step towards her.
But Rachel's expression remained skeptical, her eyes flashing with suspicion.
"I think I should go,"
I said, standing up, trying to ease the awkwardness.
Rachel's gaze lingered on me before shifting back to Raymond.
