olivia had a lollipop in her mouth as she walked side by side with spencer, both girls having seen better days. "those sunglasses aren't hiding anything," spencer tilted her head to look over at the sixteen year old next to her who had refused to let everyone see the state of her eye.
"that rubber band isn't stopping anything either," olivia reached a hand out, snapping the band around the girl's wrist as she scolded her with her eyes. "you're gonna be needing it," spencer slid it off her wrist, slipping it onto olivia's bare arm as the redhead furrowed her brows, "i'm not really going through something right now," not unless the rubber band could help her from being broke.
"no but i heard your brother wants to take our class to a fieldtrip to new york, to the fitzgerald museum," olivia stopped in her tracks, pulling the lollipop from her lips and swallowing back the sickeningly sweet aftertaste. "you're kidding, right?" she asked, spencer walking back to face her.
"no but there was no room in the budget so you got off easy," spencer kept walking, olivia following. the two were on their way to the library. "i am so glad this school is poor," olivia muttered, fixing her bag over her shoulder as she walked through the door of the library.
the first people she saw were hanna, laying on the couch, and emily sitting on a single seat. spencer sat down next to emily while olivia moved to lay with her back on hanna's, the blond barely blinked an eye as she looked through her magazine.
"are you reading that really fast or are you just fanning yourself?" spencer asked and olivia could feel a slight breeze on the back of her neck before she felt hanna shift under her. "can you move?" she asked as the redhead rolled over, letting her slip out from under her before hanna got up.
"where are you going?" emily asked the blonde while olivia pulled her bag off, putting it down beside her. "i forgot my lip gloss in the history stacks," she explained, walking away as olivia watched, taking off her sunglasses, "she's a terrible liar," she mumbled to herself before folding her arms above her head and resting on them.
"are you coming to my swin off?" emily looked over at olivia who had her eyes closed as she spoke, "yeah but i might be pressured to drown pigskin paige," olivia was the only one emily had told about paige trying to drown her a few days prior and olivia had to avoid the other redhead every time she saw her out of fear that she would end up with a black eye too.
"what's the point of this whole thing? why would coach pit you against each other before a meet?" spencer, ever the realist, asked her friend. "she's using our combined times to choose an anchor and right now we're tied," emily explained while olivia chuckled to herself, "they should tie an anchor around her ankle," she muttered and emily was the only one who disagreed, sometimes olivia thought she was too nice for her own good. she would never have done what olivia and spencer did when they were threatened by the hockey girls.
"they should," spencer scratched her cheek, "and im sure you'll beat her." she added to emily.
"im not sure," the swimmer sighed, "she wants it more."
"emily, you want it more." spencer turned to her best friend, stealing the words right out of olivia's mouth. "and it's okay to admit that,"
emily smiled softly, her gaze falling back on olivia. she cringed at the discolour of the girl's cheek, "she got you good," she didn't mean to sound harsh but that bruise looked like it stung, "maybe you should go see the doctor," she added shortly as olivia scoffed.
"this isn't canada, doctors cost money," she put her glassed back on, hoping not to bring too much attention to her face. "your mum is filthy rich," spencer noted and olivia closed her eyes under the glasses, "yeah and i'm very poor."
having a rich mother didn't always mean you had money and for the youngest of the fitzgerald kids it meant you just had a roof over your head and nothing more. their mother wanted them to submit to all her rules, to fall in line and after years of doing that, they needed some freedom even if it meant they weren't always well off.
"you can see my doctor," spencer offered, watching as olivia looked over at her. "thank you," the redhead had no more to argue, if she asked wes for money to see the doctor he would probably just tell her to get a job. god, she really did need to get a job.
"of course, you are dating my best frined after all." spencer shrugged, and they were slowly becoming friends too. "we can go after practice," olivia suggested but spencer shook her head, "i can't go to practice today but you can text me when you're done." she stated and olivia nodded, unsure of why spencer of all people would skip practice but she didn't say and olivia was in no mood to push her so she just closed her eyes again and decided to take a small nap until her next class.
