It was late, and most of the staff had left the building. I had stayed behind to work on some vocals, but honestly, my focus was slipping. The thought of Siniz kept creeping into my mind. I wanted to talk to her again, to understand why she was so guarded.I made my way to the studio, hoping to clear my head. As I walked past the editing room, I saw her sitting there, reviewing some files. It was unexpected. I assumed she'd gone home like the rest of the team, but there she was, headphones on, lost in her work.
I knocked lightly on the door, and she looked up, surprised.
"Hey," I said, leaning against the doorframe casually, trying not to seem too eager.
"Jungkook-ssi," she responded, taking off her headphones. "Do you need something?"
I shook my head. "Nah, I was just passing by. What are you still doing here? It's late."
She shrugged, turning back to her screen. "I had some reports to finish."
I walked into the room and sat on the couch, watching her work. She didn't seem comfortable with me being there, but I didn't mind. There was something about being around her, even in silence, that felt different.
"You're always working," I commented.
She glanced at me briefly. "It's part of the job."
"Yeah, but don't you ever take a break?"
She sighed, clearly unsure how to handle my sudden interest. "I'll take a break when I finish this."
I sat back, staring at the ceiling for a moment. I needed to break this tension between us. "You know," I began, "you don't have to call me 'Jungkook-ssi' all the time. Just Jungkook is fine."
She paused for a second, then went back to her work. "It's more respectful."
"But we're not that different in age," I countered. "I mean, if we're going to see each other every day, it would be better if we were... I don't know, friends?"
She looked at me like I had said something ridiculous, then quickly looked away. "We're not here to be friends, Jungkook-ssi. I'm here for work. You're an artist. There's a boundary."
There it was again. The boundary. Always the boundary. I sighed but didn't push further. "Maybe. But still, we could talk more. I think you're interesting."
She didn't reply, just kept working, but I noticed the slight stiffening of her shoulders. I was getting to her, even if she wouldn't admit it.
A few days later, I found her standing outside the building, staring up at the sky. It was raining heavily, and she didn't have an umbrella. I had been about to leave in my car but saw her hesitating at the entrance.
Without thinking, I grabbed my own umbrella and jogged over to her.
"Hey, you're going to get soaked," I said, holding the umbrella over her head.
She looked at me, startled. "I'm fine. I don't need help."
"Yeah, clearly," I joked, eyeing the heavy rain pouring down. "You're just going to wait here until it stops?"
She glanced at the rain and then back at me, clearly annoyed but resigned. "I was going to wait it out."
"Well, I'm not leaving you out here," I said firmly. "Come on, I'll walk you to the bus stop."
She hesitated for a moment before sighing and stepping closer to me under the umbrella. The walk to the bus stop was quiet, but the air between us felt charged. There was an unspoken tension—like she didn't want to be there but had no choice.
"You really don't have to do this," she mumbled after a while.
"I know," I said simply. "But I want to."
She didn't respond, but I noticed her expression soften slightly. Maybe it wasn't much, but it was progress.
When we reached the bus stop, she turned to me, eyes guarded but softer than usual. "Thank you, Jungkook-ssi."
"There you go again with the formal stuff," I teased gently. "Just Jungkook, okay?"
She smiled faintly, the smallest smile, but it was something. "Thank you, Jungkook."
For the first time, I felt like I was starting to break through those walls she had put up.
