"I had the best time playing with Trey and Chenya. We did so many things I'd never done before." Riddle speaks up, watching how many of the memories that he had with his two childhood friends fly around them as if the two teens were watching a movie. "They taught me lots of things I didn't know. After that, I snuck out of my room every day to play with them during independent study time."
The images stopped on a certain one where the two boys were helping Riddle sneak out of his house once more. Once the small red head boy was out of his room, the three kids stayed outside for a second.
"Whaaat? You've never even tried a strawberry tart? They're out of this world!" Chenya stared at the younger boy with wide eyes in disbelief.
"Yeah. My mom says sugar is basically poison." Riddle tells his new friends, retelling what his mother had told him during his eighth birthday.
"I mean, you probably shouldn't eat too much of it, but calling it 'poison' is kinda.... yikes." Trey flinches slightly at the words that Riddle had said." You know, my family runs a cake shop. Let's go get a tart right now!"
"Really? But... I shouldn't." Riddle hesitated to give in. He really did want to have a taste of the strawberry tarts that he always saw on display, but he couldn't go against his mother's words.
"Just one slice. It'll be fine." Trey reassures the younger boy, placing a hand on his red hair in a comforting manner.
"One slice for YOU, maybe. I want a whole one!" Chenya purrs out, the same mischievous smile dancing across his face.
Finally, Riddle gave in once more and let his friends drag him towards the cake shop that was owned by Trey's family. The hopeful smile on his face never left his lips as he could already imagine the taste of a tart.
"A bright-red strawberry tart on a white plate. To me, it shined more brightly than any gem could. The first bite was so sweet. It tasted like nothing I'd ever eaten before." Riddle looks at his past with a melancholy smile as he sees his past self take a bite of his first slice of tart. He saw how his eyes widened at the taste and sparkled, not minding how Chenya and Trey were teasing him at the moment." With each bite, I became more entranced... and completely lost track of time."
Chizue took her attention off Riddle for a minute and saw the scene in front of them change back to the boy's bedroom. An enrage red-haired woman was looking down at her child, frantically pacing back and forth as the little boy looked down at his feet.
" I cannot believe it! Not only are you cutting independent study time, but I find you eating a mountain of sugar?!" Mrs. Rosehearts exclaims, turning to face her child." Those two hoodlums must have incited this behavior. You must never play with them again!"
