The night of terror raged on as the festival grounds transformed into a battlefield. Curses surged relentlessly, forcing the eight sorcerers to split into two groups. Maki and Yuta were cutting down spirits on one side, while Yuji, Nobara, Megumi, and Saori faced wave after wave of curses on the other. The once-vibrant festival lights flickered eerily, casting long, jagged shadows over the chaos.

Megumi slashed through a cursed spirit, his irritation growing with each passing moment. His breath came in sharp gasps, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.

Megumi: Where the hell are these curses coming from?

he muttered through clenched teeth, glancing at the others.

Just as he was about to voice his frustration again, the air grew still. The shrieks of curses and the clamour of battle halted, replaced by an oppressive silence. It was as if the entire night held its breath. Then, from above, a sinister, echoing laughter shattered the quiet.

Everyone looked up.

A man, appearing to be in his mid-thirties, hovered in the sky above them, his figure cloaked in shadows. His grin was sharp, eyes glinting with cruel amusement as he surveyed the young sorcerers below.

Strange Man: My, my..

He drawled, his voice dripping with condescension.

I didn't expect to find such talent... especially in this era.

Saori's heart clenched in recognition. Her mind raced back to Shinjuku. She had seen this man before. He was a curse user—but definitely not Suguru Geto.

She stepped forward, eyes narrowing in suspicion and anger.

Saori: I've seen you before, you're that stranger who bumped into me in Shinjuku.

The man's smirk widened, eyes locking onto hers.

Strange Man: Ah, so you remember. How delightful.

His tone was mocking, but his eyes betrayed a deeper interest. Before Saori could press further, another figure emerged beside the man—a taller, more menacing presence. His aura was suffocating, like a dark storm brewing.

This second man sneered in annoyance, glancing at his companion: Enough with the theatrics. Let's get to the point.

His voice was cold, detached, like a blade ready to strike. His eyes shifted to Saori, sharp and assessing: Is she the one we're after?

That single question sent a chill through Megumi's spine. His body tensed, instincts screaming. He immediately stepped closer to Saori, his hand tightening into a fist, ready to summon his shadows. The air around them felt charged, like it could explode at any second.

Saori's breath hitched, but she didn't back down. The man's gaze on her felt like a predator sizing up its prey, but she met his eyes with defiance.

The first man, the curse manipulator, chuckled, seemingly entertained by the tension: We'll see, won't we? Time to put her to the test.

Megumi's heart pounded in his chest. "Test?" The word hung in the air, thick with menace.

The second man, his patience clearly waning, crossed his arms: Let me make this quick for you. I'm an ancient sorcerer from the Zenin clan.

The mention of the Zenin clan made Megumi and Maki freeze, their unease palpable. A heavy silence followed. The very name was like a ghost of their past, bringing with it dark memories of betrayal and twisted family ties.
