It was a bright afternoon at Jujutsu High, but despite the clear skies, the atmosphere felt oddly subdued. Saori walked through the courtyard, her eyes searching for someone. Finally, her gaze landed on Yuji sitting alone on a bench, staring off into the distance. His usually energetic presence seemed deflated.
Saori approached him with concern. "Hey, Yuji! You okay? You look a bit down."
Yuji looked up and forced a smile, but it didn't reach his eyes. "Oh, hey, Saori. Yeah, I'm fine. Just... thinking."
Saori wasn't convinced. She sat down beside him, her tone soft yet insistent. "You know, it's okay not to be fine all the time. What's on your mind?"
Yuji sighed, running a hand through his hair as he looked away. His eyes wandered over to the training grounds, where Megumi, Maki, and Yuta were laughing and sparring, completely absorbed in their own world.
"I guess I just feel a bit left out," Yuji admitted. "Everyone seems to be busy with their own things. It feels like I'm not really contributing much lately."
Saori smiled gently, nudging him playfully with her shoulder. "Come on, Yuji! You're always contributing. Plus, it's not about how busy everyone is. I know I'm free today. Let's do something fun, just the two of us."
Yuji raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Really? Any plans?"
"I don't know! We could grab some street food at Takeshita Street and then head to Akihabara for some arcade games." Saori's grin was infectious, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Yuji's expression brightened at the mention of the arcade. A small smile tugged at the corners of his mouth, and he nodded slowly. "Yeah, I do! That actually sounds great."
Saori stood up, clapping her hands together in excitement. "Awesome! Let's get going before we miss all the fun."
As they walked through the bustling streets of Shinjuku and Akihabara, the energy of the city began to work its magic. The lively crowds and bright signs pulled Yuji out of his funk, bit by bit. Saori kept the conversation light, cracking jokes and pointing out quirky shops along the way.
At the arcade, they dove straight into the games. Yuji's competitive side quickly kicked in, and Saori cheered him on from the sidelines, teasing him whenever he missed a shot.
"Come on, Yuji!" she giggled, her eyes gleaming with mischief. "I thought you were a pro at this!"
Yuji laughed, shaking his head. "I promise I'm usually better! Let's do this again; I won't let you down next time!"
As the afternoon wore on, Yuji's laughter became more genuine, the heaviness in his expression slowly lifting. Saori could see the change happening, and it made her heart warm to see him relax and enjoy himself.
After several rounds of games, they decided to take a break. Grabbing drinks and snacks from a nearby stand, they stood by the railing overlooking the vibrant cityscape. The sun had begun its slow descent, casting a golden glow over the skyline.
Saori leaned against the railing, sipping her drink before glancing at Yuji. "So... feeling any better? You know, next time you're feeling down, you can just talk to me."
Yuji turned to her, his smile now genuine and filled with gratitude. "Thanks, Saori. I really needed this today."
Saori smiled back, giving him a playful nudge. "Anytime! Now, let's go kick some more virtual butt!"
With renewed energy, they headed back into the arcade, ready for another round of games. The weight that had earlier hung over Yuji seemed lighter now, replaced by a sense of camaraderie and the warmth of friendship.
