The room remained eerily quiet, the dim lighting casting ominous shadows on the polished mahogany table as tension thickened with every passing second. Satoru Gojo leaned back in his chair, his posture deceptively relaxed, though anyone familiar with him would know that his mind was already racing through the implications of what Gakuganji had just revealed.
"So," Satoru began, his tone casual but with an undercurrent of curiosity, "what exactly was stolen?" His blindfolded gaze, fixed on Gakuganji, masked the sharp calculation going on beneath it.
Gakuganji hesitated, his aged hands resting on the table, knuckles white from how tightly he gripped the edge. His eyes shifted uneasily around the room, taking in the silent faces of his fellow sorcerers. Utahime and Mei Mei exchanged knowing glances, sensing the gravity of what was about to come. Aoi Todo sat forward slightly, his muscular frame tensing as confusion clouded his usual confidence. Across the table, Shoko leaned back in her chair, her calm demeanor never wavering, though her gaze sharpened. Atsuya and Noritoshi remained quiet, their attentions focused, anticipating what the old man would say next.
Finally, Gakuganji sighed, his shoulders slumping under the weight of the revelation. "You'd find out sooner or later," he muttered under his breath. He cleared his throat and spoke louder, addressing the room. "The stolen artifact was none other than the original Inverted Spear of Heaven."
The room stiffened at once, the collective intake of breath deafening in the otherwise silent space. Satoru's face, typically set in a permanent look of detached amusement, shifted ever so slightly. His head tilted, just enough to show that even he hadn't anticipated this.
Gakuganji's voice, low and heavy with regret, continued. "The spear Toji Fushiguro once wielded was a crude, newer version—powerful, yes, but this one..." He trailed off, locking eyes with Satoru. "This one is ancient, predating all modern cursed tools by thousand years. It was forged specifically to neutralize a Six Eyes user with the Limitless technique in case they went rogue."
A heavy silence settled over the room. The implications of that statement hung in the air, thick and oppressive. Satoru's fingers drummed rhythmically against the armrest of his chair, his posture still lax, but internally, his thoughts were moving at lightning speed. The original Inverted Spear of Heaven... A tool designed to pierce through both his and Saori's infinity. A chill ran down his spine at the thought of Saori being targeted.
He forced a grin, though it didn't reach his eyes. "A secret weapon against me?" he mused, voice light but tinged with an edge of sarcasm. "I'm flattered. Always nice to know the higher-ups had a backup plan in case I go crazy."
Utahime shot him a sharp look, her suspicion clear. She knew him too well. He's too calm, she thought, watching him closely. He always acts like this when he's hiding something. Her arms crossed over her chest as she waited for his facade to crack. But it didn't—not yet.
Mei Mei, ever pragmatic, broke the silence. "If the weapon is as dangerous as you say, we should act now." Her tone was cool and collected. "Saori should activate her infinity on autopilot as a precaution until we figure out who's behind this."
Satoru's expression didn't shift, but inwardly, he knew the reality. That spear could pierce even Saori's strongest defences. He nodded, playing along with Mei Mei's suggestion. "I'll talk to her," he said, voice neutral. Though it won't matter much, he thought grimly.
A heavy silence followed, each sorcerer lost in their own thoughts. The atmosphere was thick with the unspoken danger that now loomed over them. Hakari, arms crossed over his chest, broke the silence with a contemplative tone. "Whoever took it must've known exactly what they were after. You don't just stumble upon something like this by chance."
