Saori sat on her bed, holding a familiar hair clip between her fingers. It was small, adorned with a delicate blue crystal snowflake—simple, but it carried so much meaning. Satoru had bought it for her the same year she met Megumi for the first time. Memories came flooding back, vivid as if they had just happened yesterday.
"In our culture, a snowflake symbolize purity and uniqueness. No two snowflakes are the same, but each one is special in its own way."
She could still hear Satoru's voice as clearly as that day.
"I'm glad to hear that, but... I don't think it'll be forever. One day you'll grow up, fall in love, and forget all about me."
She had scrunched her nose at the thought.
"Fall in love? With a boy? Yuck! Boys are gross."
Satoru's laughter filled the air, carefree and warm.
"You say that now, but time has a funny way of changing things."
"I could never forget you, Onii-chan. Never ever."
The memory faded as a knock on the door pulled her out of her thoughts. Saori blinked, setting the clip down gently on the nightstand.
Saori: Come in
The door opened, and to her surprise, it was Satoru himself. He stood in the doorway, holding a box of strawberry mochi, a familiar playful glint in his eyes.
Satoru grins: I come bearing gifts and... an apology.
Saori raised an eyebrow, watching him sit beside her on the bed. The box of mochi landed between them, its sweet scent already filling the room. She picked one up, taking a small bite as she waited for him to speak.
They sat together in a comfortable silence, enjoying the mochi and catching up about their day. The mood was light, but Saori could sense there was something weighing on Satoru's mind. His usual carefree demeanor seemed a bit dimmed, and she could feel the shift in the atmosphere as he took a deep breath.
Satoru: Saori, there's something I've been meaning to talk to you about.
She glanced at him, her chewing slowing. His tone was serious, but not harsh. It was the tone he used when he was trying to understand something deeper, when the teasing stopped, and he became the protective older brother she had always known.
Satoru: What are your feelings toward Megumi?
He asked, his gaze meeting hers with a gentleness that surprised her.
Saori looked down, her fingers playing with the last bit of mochi in her hand. The question wasn't unexpected, but now that it was here, she found it hard to put into words. She took a deep breath, her mind swirling with emotions she hadn't quite been able to name before now.
Saori: I've never felt like this before.
She began quietly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Saori: He... he's different. There's something about him that makes me feel... safe. Not in the sense that he'll protect me, but like... when I'm with him, I don't feel the need to put my walls up. Does that make sense?
Satoru watched her, his face softening, though his expression remained unreadable. Saori continued, her voice growing steadier.
Saori: I like that he's quiet, but not in a cold way. He listens. He's... thoughtful. He doesn't say much, but when he does, it matters. And he's... kind, in his own way.
She paused, her heart fluttering as she spoke the words out loud for the first time. It felt strange and vulnerable, but also freeing.
Saori: I... I don't know where this will go.
