Chapter 18 - insecurities (filler)

Megumi stood in the courtyard of the Zen'in estate, arms crossed as he waited for Maki. The sky was overcast, casting the stone walls in muted light, and the familiar tension of the place clung to the air. He had no interest in lingering here longer than necessary, preferring to get in, help Maki, and get out.

But as he stood there, a figure approached—a young woman from the Zen'in clan. She was well-known around the estate, considered one of the prettiest among the clan, and her confidence was clear in the way she walked, her gaze locking onto Megumi with a smile that he found... annoying.

"Fushiguro-sama, right?" she greeted, her tone overly familiar as she sidled up to him, far too close for his liking. "I don't think we've had the chance to properly meet. I've heard a lot about you since, well, you're the clan leader now." Her voice was honeyed, and she batted her eyelashes in a way that was almost comical.

Megumi's expression remained unreadable, though his jaw tightened slightly. "What do you want?"

The girl laughed lightly, undeterred by his cold reception. "Oh, come on. I'm just being friendly. After all, a guy like you—strong, stoic, and now in charge—you must have all kinds of girls lining up for you."

Megumi shifted his weight, eyes narrowing slightly. "Not interested."

She ignored the brush-off, leaning in closer, her voice dropping to something more suggestive. "Are you sure? You don't know what you're missing."

Before Megumi could respond, two familiar voices echoed from behind them.

"Oi, What do you think you're doing!," Nobara said loudly, striding into the courtyard with Yuji right beside her, both wearing their usual casual confidence.

The Zen'in girl turned to see them approach, a flicker of irritation crossing her face. "And who might you two be?"

Nobara crossed her arms, giving the girl a look that said she wasn't impressed. "I'm Nobara Kugisaki, and that's Yuji Itadori." She glanced at Megumi, then back at the girl. "You know, I've seen a lot of girls try this sort of thing, but you're barking up the wrong tree."

The girl raised an eyebrow, clearly not appreciating Nobara's interference. "Oh? And why's that?"

Nobara smirked. "Because, bitch, Fushiguro here is spoken for!"

The Zenin girl crossed her arms and eyed Nobara up and down giving her a sarcastic look. "And would his girlfriend be you?"

Nobara scoffed. "Even if hell freezes over and we needed to dance the lambada I would never choose Fushiguro.

Megumi muttered. "Thank Kugisaki."

Yuji chuckled, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "She better not be or Saori would kill her! "

At the mention of Saori, the girl's expression faltered for the first time. "You mean Saori Gojo? I've heard that name rumours about the Gojo clan having another six eyes user with the limitless technique who also happens to be Satoru Gojo's younger sister."

Yuji, standing just behind Nobara, nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah, Satoru Gojo's little sister. Who so happens to be Megumi's girlfriend."

Megumi felt his annoyance rising, his gaze flicking to Yuji in mild exasperation. He didn't like it when people brought up his relationship so openly, especially here. "Yuji..."

Yuji blinked, realizing he might have said too much. "Uh, sorry, man..."

The Zen'in girl, clearly flustered now, took a step back, her tone shifting from flirty to defensive. "Well... no wonder you're not interested. I've heard rumours that the head of the clan was dating a Gojo, but I didn't think they were true. I mean you are a Zenin why would you want your blood to be tainted."
