The cabin felt eerily quiet that night. Zach, fully bandaged and still nursing the pain in his side, sat with his back against the wall, watching the flickering fire. The warmth from the flames couldn’t chase away the cold feeling in his gut—something was coming.

Anastasia sat beside him, her hand lightly resting on his knee, giving him silent comfort. Outside, the sound of leaves rustling in the wind and the occasional animal call was all that broke the stillness.

“Jungkook and Aradhya are on watch,” Anastasia whispered, her voice low, as though afraid of disturbing the fragile peace. “We’ve reinforced everything. No one’s getting through without a fight.”

Zach gave a curt nod. “It’s not enough. The bandits—they’ll come with more force, more numbers. They know we’re here. And if the zombies show up again too…” He didn’t finish the sentence.

“We’ll deal with it,” she said firmly, her eyes locked onto his. “We always do.”

Before Zach could reply, a loud, distant crack echoed through the night, like a gunshot cutting through the silence.

They both shot to their feet. Zach’s body screamed in protest as pain flared in his side, but he ignored it, adrenaline already surging through his veins. “That’s them,” he muttered, grabbing his weapon.

Anastasia grabbed hers too, and without another word, they rushed outside to join Jungkook and Aradhya. The two were already crouched behind a barricade, weapons at the ready, their faces tight with tension.

“What was that?” Aradhya whispered, her eyes darting toward the tree line.

“Bandits,” Zach replied grimly. “They’re coming.”

Jungkook cursed under his breath. “I knew it. They’ve probably been tracking us ever since we got away.”

“We’ll have to face them head-on,” Zach said, tightening his grip on his weapon. “No running this time.”

Suddenly, another shot rang out, this one much closer. The group ducked instinctively, pressing themselves against the wooden barricade. The air was thick with tension, each second stretching longer than the last.

Then came the sound of footsteps—lots of them. Heavy, deliberate, and drawing closer.

Zach peered over the barricade. In the dim light, he could make out figures moving through the trees, slowly fanning out to surround the cabin. There were at least a dozen of them, all armed.

“Zach, what do we do?” Anastasia asked quietly, her voice tense but calm.

“We fight,” Zach replied, his jaw set. “We don’t let them take us.”

With a nod, everyone readied themselves, their faces grim with determination. They had faced impossible odds before, and they would face them again tonight.

The first bandit emerged from the shadows, a sneer on his face as he raised his gun toward the cabin. “Come on out!” he called, his voice dripping with malice. “No need to make this harder than it has to be!”

Zach clenched his fists, fury rising in his chest. “Like hell we’re giving up,” he muttered, more to himself than anyone else.

As the bandits inched closer, Jungkook, always quick on his feet, whispered, “We can’t let them pin us down inside the cabin. We need to hit them fast, break their formation.”

Zach nodded. “You and Aradhya take the left side, Anastasia and I will take the right. Hit them hard and force them back.”

“Got it,” Jungkook replied, exchanging a glance with Aradhya before they slinked off into the shadows.
