The silence of the bunker was abruptly broken by the crack of gunfire. The group barely had time to react as the sound of boots echoed through the halls. The mysterious men in black had found them.

"Move!" Zach shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos. He grabbed Anastasia’s hand, pulling her to her feet as they raced down the narrow corridors of the bunker. Behind them, Mei, Yeong Do, Jungkook, and Aradhya followed, their footsteps pounding against the concrete floor.

"They’re everywhere!" Mei shouted, panic in her voice as she glanced over her shoulder.

"We need to get out of here!" Yeong Do added, his usual calm shattered by the sudden danger.

The group burst out into the open air, the bunker’s entrance far behind them. But the sight that met them was far worse than they had anticipated. The men had surrounded them—masked, heavily armed, and ready to attack.

"This is it," Zach whispered, his piercing blue eyes scanning the area, his mind racing. He squeezed Anastasia's hand one last time. "I need to do this."

"What are you talking about?" Anastasia asked, her voice trembling. She had never seen Zach like this, a storm brewing behind those blue eyes, darker than she had ever imagined.

"I promised I’d protect you, all of you," Zach said, his voice soft yet determined. "But I’ve been hiding something."

Before anyone could react, Zach stepped forward, placing himself between the group and the men. Anastasia’s heart raced, dread building in her chest. “Zach, don’t—”

But it was too late.

Zach’s eyes blazed with a strange light as he closed his eyes, his body going still. The men in black hesitated, their guns aimed at him, unsure of what was happening. Then, something changed in the air—an unnatural shift. The ground beneath them seemed to tremble, and suddenly, the distant groans of zombies filled the air.

From the woods, dozens of undead figures emerged, their slow, shuffling forms converging toward the group. But they weren’t attacking the living.

They were obeying Zach.

Anastasia’s breath caught in her throat as she watched, stunned, as the zombies formed a protective circle around Zach and the group, their decaying eyes locked on the men who had come to kill them. Zach’s control over the undead was absolute.

One of the men shouted, "Fire!" And chaos erupted.

Gunfire rang out, but the bullets didn’t hit their intended targets. Instead, the zombies surged forward, overwhelming the armed soldiers with terrifying speed. The men’s shouts of confusion and fear echoed through the forest as the undead ripped through their lines, tearing them apart with savage ferocity.

Zach stood in the center of it all, his eyes glowing with an eerie, supernatural light. His expression was calm, even as death surrounded him. He was a commander of the dead, using the very thing that had plagued their world to his advantage.

“Zach…” Anastasia whispered, her voice trembling with both awe and fear.

He turned to her, his face softening. “I had to do it, Ana. This is the only way.”

The soldiers fell one by one, their strength no match for the sheer number of zombies that Zach commanded. Within minutes, the battle was over. The once organized, lethal force was reduced to a scattered collection of bodies, torn apart by the horde. The surviving few fled into the forest, leaving behind their fallen comrades.

As the final groan of a dying man echoed through the trees, Zach raised his hand, and the zombies stopped their onslaught. Slowly, they turned and began to retreat back into the shadows of the woods, leaving the group standing alone amidst the carnage.

Zach’s power, his control over the dead, had saved them.

But at what cost?

The group stood in stunned silence, the weight of what they had just witnessed settling over them. Anastasia stepped forward, her green eyes filled with confusion and emotion as she looked up at Zach.

"How long…?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Zach closed his eyes, the glow fading as the supernatural energy left his body. “Since I was bitten. I didn’t turn, but I changed. I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want you to see me like this.”

Anastasia reached out, her hand resting against his chest. “You’re still you, Zach. No matter what.”

He opened his eyes, his gaze filled with uncertainty. “I don’t know if I am. But I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe.”

Aradhya stepped forward, her voice cutting through the tension. “Well, that was one hell of a secret to keep.”

Jungkook, standing close beside her, shook his head, half in disbelief. “Man, we’ve got to talk about this zombie-control thing. But for now, we need to figure out what comes next.”

Mei, her voice steadier than it had been moments ago, chimed in. “We need to move. That convoy might not be the only group after us.”

Yeong Do nodded, his eyes still wide with shock, but his focus returning. “Zach bought us time, but they’ll send more. We need to stay ahead of them.”

Zach glanced at the group, guilt flickering in his expression. “I’ll keep using my power, but only when I have to. We can’t rely on it. It’s dangerous… to all of us.”

Anastasia met his gaze, her heart pounding in her chest. “We’ll face whatever comes, together.”

Zach’s lips curved into a small smile, and he pulled her close, pressing his forehead against hers. “I love you, Ana. I’d do anything for you.”

She smiled back, her heart full. “I love you too, Zach. And we’ll survive this. All of us.”

But as they embraced, the shadows of the forest seemed darker, more menacing. The threat wasn’t over. And now, they knew there were forces hunting them, enemies far worse than the undead.

The real fight had only just begun.

The group moved quickly, leaving behind the remnants of the soldiers and heading deeper into the forest. Their journey led them to an underground bunker they’d heard whispers about, a place of safety and shelter—but also a place where new dangers lurked in the shadows.

Zach’s power would be both a gift and a curse in the battles ahead. But as long as they had each other, they had hope.

And love.
