With that, he stormed out of the cabin, leaving a thick tension hanging in the air. Zach could feel his heart pounding in his chest, a mixture of anger and concern coursing through him.
“What a jerk,” Jungkook muttered, crossing his arms. “We’re all in this together. Why can’t he see that?”
Anastasia glanced at Zach, worry etched across her features. “What if he really does leave? We need everyone to work together.”
Zach sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I know. But I also know we can’t force anyone to stay. If he chooses to leave, he might put himself in danger.”
Aradhya nodded, her brow furrowed in thought. “We should keep an eye on him. If he’s that reckless, he could bring trouble back to us.”
“Agreed,” Zach said, determination solidifying in his voice. “But we need to focus on securing our position here first. We’re stronger together.”
As the night wore on, the fire crackled softly, and the group began to settle into an uneasy silence. Conversations turned to murmurs as each person pondered their place in this fragile alliance.
Anastasia pulled Zach aside, away from the flickering light of the fire. “Are you okay?” she asked softly, concern filling her voice. “You seemed really tense back there.”
Zach looked into her green eyes, feeling the weight of the world lift slightly in her presence. “I just want to protect everyone. I can’t shake the feeling that something bad is going to happen.”
She reached up, gently brushing her fingers along his cheek. “You can’t control everything, Zach. Just be there for us, and we’ll be there for you.”
He leaned into her touch, savoring the warmth. “You’re right. I just… I don’t want to lose anyone else.”
Anastasia’s expression softened, and without thinking, she stepped closer, wrapping her arms around him. “You won’t. I promise.”
For a moment, everything felt right. The chaos of the world outside faded away, and all that mattered was the warmth of their embrace. Zach’s heart raced as he leaned down, their lips brushing together in a tentative kiss that quickly deepened.
But the moment was shattered by the distant sound of shouting.
“What was that?” Jungkook’s voice called from the fire.
Zach pulled away, adrenaline surging through him as he turned toward the cabin entrance. “Stay here!” he instructed Anastasia, his protective instincts kicking in.
The group rushed outside to find the scarred man confronting a couple of zombies that had wandered too close to their camp. The moonlight cast eerie shadows as he swung a makeshift weapon, desperately trying to fend them off.
“Help! I didn’t mean to bring them here!” he yelled, panic flooding his voice.
Zach wasted no time. “Let’s go!” he shouted, charging forward with Jungkook and Aradhya at his side.
They rushed to his aid, weapons drawn as they took on the undead. The air was thick with the stench of decay and adrenaline as they fought. Each swing of their weapons was fueled by urgency, and soon, the zombies fell, lifeless at their feet.
Once the immediate threat was eliminated, Zach turned to the scarred man, who was visibly shaken. “What were you thinking?” Zach demanded, anger bubbling beneath the surface. “You could have put all of us at risk!”
“I… I thought I could handle it,” the man stammered, clearly regretting his decision.
“You can’t go off on your own like that!” Aradhya added, her eyes fierce. “We’re in this together. It’s a team effort!”
