Maeve and Joost continued to stare at each other, taking in every detail of the person on their opposite. The man, still in the close he wore at the studio, was the first to notice their excruciatingly silent duration on his front porch.
"If you're looking for Alanis, she's next door."
She gulped. His lack of interest drove her away. Of course he wouldn't care, he stopped years ago. Maeve nodded faintly and turned on her heels. With a buffeted smile over her shoulder to Joost, she stretched to the neighbouring house.
Joost resisted the urge to engulf her into a hug, interrogate about her life and invite her in. If he had the choice, he would've went back to how they used to be, instantly. Yet the Dutch man held back in consideration of Maeve's relationship, or so he thought.
The lasting impression of her previous encounter was quickly replaced by her best friend's joy. Alanis' front door opened before Evie could ring the bell.
"Evie!", her arms folded over the Irish girl's shoulders with a wide grin. She returned the hug gladly, it was all she needed at the moment. "How are you?"
"I'm okay, needed a break from tour, I guess."
Ali raised her eyebrows as she squinted: "Is that the only reason you're here?"
"Not really", Maeve spoke truthfully,"Because I missed you and the others. Well, and because Grian and I had a tiny dispute."
The Spanish girl hummed understandably and stepped to the side to let her friend in.
Evie's gaze scanned the rather plain white walls, barely any pictures hanging on them. There was a staircase leading up to the second floor whilst the ground floor led to two doors. She followed Alanis along towards one of them, entering to find the living space.
As expected, it was decorated nicely. When they used to live together, Alanis had always enjoyed making the place homely and inviting to anyone. The window faced a small backyard.
"Make yourself at home, we can take your things upstairs later. Tell me the Grian lore, please, I want to know everything!"
Alanis' wish was fulfilled by Maeve with ease. From beginning to end, no details missed, she explained their story. How Niamh introduced her to the band, growing close with the man, their development, touring and finally, their argument.
Thankfully, Maeve could leave out the heartbreaking part, her ending with Joost. It wasn't tragic or dramatic, the ambiguity made it as painful as it was for the two of them. In Evie's belief, her and Grian wouldn't have happened if she kept talking to the Dutch man.
Open-mouthed, Alanis took in the pieces of information her best friend spat with ease. Evidently, Maeve's skin had toughened since her situationship with Nathan and she could openly admit to her feelings about the relationship, at least to Ali.
"Okay now, woah. That's... uhm, unfortunate? How do you cope with that?", she recoiled as Evie ended her explanation.
"It's easy, Ali", the Irish girl declared maliciously, "I don't. I move on and let it eat me from the inside."

Maeve's reunion with the Albino Sports label was a blessing, besides Joost. He stayed behind awkwardly whilst the others greeted the woman.
It was the day of the music video shoot of Friesenjung. The set was located in the depth of Friesland, close to Joost's hometown. Maeve offered to accompany them and provide them with necessities, gladly appreciated by the team.
