"I can't do this right now."
The man turned on his heels, snatched the pack of cigarettes that sat on the table and headed back through the door.
Maeve pressed her lips together, trying her best to avoid eye contact with her friends. Apson and Stuntje waved awkwardly nonetheless. The door swung open once again, this time to reveal Teun with a questioning expression spread on his face.
"Why did Joost look so distressed... oh!", he started but answered himself as he caught Evie in the room.
Alanis sighed: "I swear, the only surviving couples here are Nads, Teun, and Apson and I. It's cruel to watch."
The producer and Nadia shared a knowing look. In unison, they spoke.
"We broke up."
"What?!", the others shouted, wide eyed.
Maeve spun around with furrowed eyebrows, shooting her best friend a confused stare. Nads had never mentioned parting from her boyfriend.
"Why?", the Irish girl interrogated,"And why haven't you told us?"
"It's only been a few days", Teun shrugged, his former girlfriend agreeing.
"I swing the other way."
Silence. Puzzlement.
"I listen to girl in red?"
Evie and Alanis gasped. Still nothing from the men.
"I'm more into Xena than Hercules?"
When the male party of the group failed to catch the drift once more, Nadia's two best friends came to rescue.
"She's a lesbian!", they almost yelled at them in frustration. A string of oh's echoed through the dressing room.
Maeve and Ali tackled her into a bone-crushing hug: "We're so proud of you."
The American girl was in awe of her luck with her best friends. Admitting to her sexuality was not an easy step in her life, especially whilst being in a relationship with a man. Yet Teun was very understanding, he wanted the best for her.
Their breakup stayed secret until Nadia felt prepared to officially tell their friend group.
Like the entrance hasn't been harassed enough in the past minutes, it bursted open. A panting Jeroen appeared.
"Hey girlies", he cheered, unaware of the strange situation in the room. His eyes shifted over the gathering. The Dutch man received a few troubled glances.
"Am I interrupting something?"
"I mean, Joost is outside chain smoking his anger at Maeve away, and our model couple here broke up", Apson breathed out, very overwhelmed by the amount of information.
Jeroen covered his mouth: "Really, why? You were so lovely."
"I'm in your lane, Jer", Nads chuckled.
"Oh my", he gasped excitedly,"Welcome to the fam!"
Nadia smiled. The support meant a lot to her. But her thankful thoughts came to a halt when she remembered her best friend's position. Joost was still outside, dealing with her sudden appearance in Malmö.
She placed her hand on the Irish girl's shoulder: "Evie, I think you really need to go talk to someone."
Maeve nodded, standing up from her original seat. A deep breath filled her lungs before making her way down the hallway. The one and only smoking area backstage was empty, well almost.
