Panic. The suffocating, body wracking, innate fear that if one wasn't careful would overtake one's entire mind. Siobhan's heart was pounding as she stumbled around the house looking for her keys. The world around her was blurring, her vision tunneling as she began to feel the panic dragging her soul down beneath its waves. She reached up to grip her chest as her lungs began to feel tighter. Autumn was hurt- worse, she may have been dying. Siobhan didn't know if it would make a difference to tell Roger. His children were puzzle pieces in his sick game- they meant nothing to him in the grand scheme of things. No, she had to get there quickly, and avoid Roger knowing at all costs. But where the hell were her damn keys!?
Ping!
She didn't have time for messages, not now. She had one thing on her mind, get to Reece.
Ping! Ping!
"Oh what the fuck could be so important!?" She ripped her phone off the cold marble of the countertop, clicking it on to see 15 missed calls from Vivian. There were messages back to back begging her to call her. Call after call, voicemails left multiple times. She felt her thumb twitch over the call button, her soul begging her to just simply press down- to forget about the angry man upstairs, still stomping and throwing things around. It pleaded with her to just press the button, to feel the calm of Vivian's voice, but just as she was willing to give in to the need- the screen lit up with the pinstripe pattern again. Siobhan gasped, retracting her finger away from the screen instinctively. She couldn't stop herself from pressing the green button, answering the tempting voice on the other end with a simple- "Viv?"
"Oh my god, Siobhan! Marjorie is in the Emergency department, there was a crash- Autumn is in surgery she's in critical condition you have to get here now!" Vivian sounded like she was on the verge of tears as she spoke, panic evident in her fearful tone. Siobhan stood silently listening to Vivian continue to explain the accident. She felt like she was standing outside of her own body, every inch of her numb as she tried to process Vivian's panic.
"I'm on my way. I need you to stay with Marjorie." Siobhan tried to sound put together, but her voice was shaky at best.
"No, Siobhan, Autumn is so worse off, I have to-"
"Viv, I need you to stay with her. She will need someone when she wakes up, and it cannot be me. So please, I am begging you. Stay with her." Siobhan heard shuffling above her, forcing her to move quicker. "I have to go, I will be there as soon as I can." Siobhan hung up, not giving Vivian a chance to respond before she bolted for the door. Her body wanted to stop as she caught a glimpse of the couch still in its askew state. She fought off the flashes in her mind as she used all her willpower to continue pushing her way out the door. It was like adrenaline had taken over her body as her feet pounded against the pavement towards her car.
Drive the car. Get to Reece....
Drive...
Reece.
**
Reece was pacing outside of the Emergency bay at Saint Luke's when Siobhan finally got to the hospital. Her legs refused to move, denied her the ability to get out from behind her wheel and go to him. She didn't deserve to be the one he called, she didn't really understand why he had. Sure, by comparison she was a much better option than his father, but-... She never had been kind to the Knight siblings. Something in Siobhan had shifted, her heart actually hurt for Reece. Autumn was the only real family he had, and as much as he joked about Siobhan being his 'mummy'-...she really was the closest to it for him. Just as Siobhan finally felt that she had gathered the courage to step foot from the driver's seat, her eyes caught a blur of red shoot from the carpark up into Reece's arms. It was Mia. Reece had enveloped her in his arms, tears streaming from his face as he tried to remain standing. Charlotte slowly walked up behind Mia, her hands crossed behind her back as she let them have their moment. Siobhan wondered what it would be like to have people come running when disaster struck. She had never had that, not even as a child. She felt a pang of jealousy hit her chest as Mia reached her hand up to hold Reece's head close to her shoulder. Siobhan knew that Mia would never let anyone see her care like this, no one but Charlotte and the Knight siblings. But as the world flew by around them, Mia threw all her pride to the wind to comfort Reece. Moments must have passed her by as she was lost in the thought of it all, because before she could register it- a knock came from the window of her car.
