_A Lonely Table_

Jamie sat alone at their usual study table.

He stared at me across the library.

I  avoided eye contact.

Jamie sighed.

What had he done wrong?

Tiffany appeared, sliding into the seat beside him.

"Jamie, darling," Tiffany cooed.

Jamie forced a smile.

"Hey, Tiffany."

Tiffany batted her lashes.

"I see Alex is avoiding you."

Jamie's eyes narrowed.

"What do you know?"

Tiffany shrugged.

"Just observing."

Jamie's gaze returned to Alex.

He longed to bridge the gap between them.

Tiffany's voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Maybe it's time to move on."

Jamie's attention snapped back to Tiffany.

"From Alex?"

Tiffany nodded.

"She's clearly not interested."

Jamie's expression turned cold.

"I'll decide that."

Jamie pov

I couldn't take it anymore.

Alex's avoidance was suffocating me.

I needed answers.

I spotted her leaving the library and rushed to catch up.

"Alex!" I called out.

She turned, her eyes wary.

"Hey, Jamie."

"Hey?" I repeated.

That's all I got?

We stood outside, the cool breeze carrying our words.

"Alex, what's going on?" I asked.

"You've been avoiding me."

She shrugged.

"Busy."

I raised an eyebrow.

"Busy?"

Alex nodded.

"Yeah."

I took a deep breath.

"Tiffany talked to you, didn't she?"

Alex's gaze faltered.

"What does Tiffany have to do with this?"

I stepped closer.

"Tell me."

Alex sighed.

"Tiffany warned me away from you."

My eyes narrowed.

"And you listened?"

Alex's shoulders slumped.

"I didn't want drama."

I felt a pang of frustration.

"You're letting Tiffany control us."

My eyes flashed.

"I'm just trying to protect our friendship."

Protect our friendship?

Or push me away
