_Needing Space_

"Jamie, I need space," I said finally.

Jamie's face fell.

"What does that even mean?" he asked.

"It means I need time to figure things out," I replied.

"Figure what out?" Jamie pressed.

"Us, Tiffany, everything," I sighed.

Jamie's eyes narrowed.

"So I'm the problem now?"

"No, Jamie," I said gently.

"Tiffany's the problem."

Jamie's expression turned cold.

"You're really going to let her come between us?"

"I have no choice," I said firmly.

Jamie's voice dropped to a whisper.

"Will you really do this, Alex?"

I nodded.

"I have to."

Jamie's eyes flashed with hurt.

"As you wish."

With that, he turned and walked away.

I watched him go, feeling a pang of regret.

We both needed space, but this felt like goodbye

Days turned into weeks.

Jamie and I became experts at ignoring each other.

We'd cross paths, our gazes would meet, and the hurt would flash like a warning sign.

But we'd look away, each pretending the other didn't exist.

Classrooms, hallways, and even our favorite café became battlefields.

We'd sit alone, lost in our thoughts, the tension between us palpable.

Emily tried to bridge the gap, but we both shut her down.

"Give us space," we'd say.

Space to heal, space to forget.

But forgetting wasn't an option.

Every glance, every memory, every unspoken word lingered.

One day, while studying in the library, our eyes locked.

For a moment, the world froze.

The pain, the regret, the longing—everything surfaced.

But we broke the gaze, each retreating into our own world.

The silence between us grew thicker, heavier.

Unspoken words turned into unbridgeable gaps.

Was this the end of our friendship?
