_Tension in the Hallway_

"Hey, Alex!" Jamie called out, approaching me.

"Hey," I replied, trying to hide my stress.

"Want to grab lunch or study together?" Jamie asked.

My anxiety spiked.

"Jamie, I'm sorry," I said firmly.

"I really need to focus on studying."

Jamie's expression darkened.

"You won't even spare me, your boyfriend, enough time?" Jamie asked, voice rising.

My stress boiled over.

"Jamie, please understand," I begged.

"Give me the space I need. Let me be."

Jamie's eyes flashed with anger.

"OK, as you wish," Jamie spat.

Jamie turned and walked away.

Leaving me feeling guilty.

And relieved.

But also worried.

Did I just push Jamie away

_Distance Grows_

Days passed, and Jamie's anger simmered.

Conversations became stilted.

Jamie's usual warmth was replaced with cold politeness.

My heart ached.

Longing for our usual connection.

But uncertainty kept me silent.

One evening, Jamie arrived late from practice.

We exchanged brief hellos.

Jamie showered and changed.

No conversation.

No eye contact.

I tried to break the silence.

"Jamie, about the other day..." I began.

Jamie cut me off.

"Alex, I'm tired. Need sleep."

Jamie's door closed.

A clear message:

Leave me alone.

My eyes stung.

Tears fell.

Regret washed over me.

Have I lost Jamie?
