Lando fumbled on the first lap. He started P2, but fell back to P6.

Max was in front and even though he was my teammate and I actually liked him, I love Lando way more.

And Lando didn't have any DRS. He couldn't use it because he couldn't catch up.

So I let myself fall back as well.

I pressed my radio button. "Check if there's something wrong with my car? I have no pace"

There was obviously nothing wrong with my car. I did have a lot of pace, but I needed an excuse so Lando could catch up.

"We will check" Kai said, probably already checking but he wasn't gonna find anything wrong.

Lando was now driving behind me, I could see him in my mirrors.

"Gap behind?" I asked.

"0.8" Kai answered.

Awesome so he was in DRS range.

I kept driving in front of him, giving him all the DRS he wanted. He drove passed me, but he didn't drive away.

He was giving me DRS now, we switched positions like that a few times, until we were driving in P2 and P3.

Kai was unusually quiet, he probably didn't want to ask me what I was doing over the radio.
He knew exactly what I was doing but didn't want to rat me out.

But he probably thought I was crazy for doing this. If he only knew what a teamboss this team had.

I let Lando drive passed me and he ended on P2, while I finished right behind him on P3.

It was the first time we were on the podium together.

But first, we had the cooldown room together, with Max. There were so many things we wanted to tell each other but we couldn't.

Max was sitting down on the chair and looking at the screen where they always put some highlights of the race.

And those highlights included a lot of Lando and I. His bad start, me falling back to him, us driving passed everyone together until we reached Max.

So instead of asking all the questions he wanted to ask, he said nothing.
And instead of me telling Lando why I did what I did, I was quiet as well.

It was the most awkward cooldown room, which the media would definitely come up with a lame reasoning behind it, for example that we hated each other.

Which wasn't the truth at all. Quite the opposite.

We did the podium ceremony, the press conference and the interviews.
All equally as awkward.

Lando grabbed my hand as we were walking out of the conference room, pulling me with him somewhere quiet, where we were alone.

"Was there something wrong with your car?" Lando asked.

"There was" I lied.

He looked at me like he knew I was lying, but he didn't question me anymore.

Instead, he took a step closer. "Thanks" he whispered.

"I have no idea what you're talking about" I mimicking him.

He chuckled at that. "You don't need to risk your position for me" he said softly, intertwining our fingers together.

"I would risk everything for you" I mimicked him again, but it was the truth.
Christian definitely did me a favor, because he gave me the balls to admit how I felt about Lando.

I was in love with him.

Absolutely in love with him.

"Miss Caine" someone interrupted us, his voice gave me shivers, made me take a step back almost immediately, breaking my touch with Lando.

It was my dad.

"Can you come to my office?" He asked when I turned around to face him. "Why?" I asked.

"We need to discuss something" he just said.

I did nothing wrong, I didn't break any rules. So he wanted to have a father-daughter talk.
He was gonna tell me how stupid I was.

"I will text you" I said as I looked back at Lando. He nodded.

"Text me as soon as you're out of his office" Lando said and took a step closer again. "Or when you need rescuing"

Oh I was definitely gonna need that.
