Title- "You are more than that."Summary- You both confess to each other.
The sky was turning shades of purple and orange as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the city streets, you stood outside a quiet coffee shop, your hands stuffed into the pockets of your jacket, feeling the cool breeze against her face, you had agreed to meet Bucky here - it had been a few weeks since their last mission together, and a part of you was both nervous and excited about this rare moment of normalcy.
A soft clink of boots on pavement made her turn around, and there he was. Bucky Barnes, with his trademark leather jacket and metal arm glinting faintly under the fading sunlight. His dark hair was slightly tousled, and there was a hint of a smile at the corner of his lips as he approached.
"Hey," he greeted, his voice as low and calming as always.
"Hey yourself," You replied, smiling back. "You made it on time for once."
Bucky chuckled, scratching the back of his neck. "Yeah, well, I'm trying this new thing called not being late." His smile widened slightly. "I hear it's impressive."
You laughed, the sound mixing with the distant hum of traffic. "Consider me impressed, Sergeant Barnes."
You both slipped into easy conversation, talking about everything from your latest mission to the strangest places you'd ended up over the years. For once, there were no Hydra agents, no world-ending threats-just two people trying to enjoy a quiet evening.
Eventually, the conversation slowed, and they found themselves walking side by side along the waterfront, the city lights shimmering on the water. You noticed Bucky glancing at her more often than usual, a thoughtful expression crossing his face every now and then.
"What's on your mind, Bucky?" You asked softly, nudging his shoulder with yours.
He paused for a moment, then sighed. "I've been thinking... about what comes next."
You raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
"I mean... after everything. The missions, the fights, the saving the world thing. What happens when that's all over?" His gaze was distant, as if he were staring into a future that still felt uncertain.
You considered his words carefully. "I don't know, honestly. I guess... we try to find a life outside of all this. Something normal, maybe. But... does normal really exist for people like us?"
Bucky looked at you, his steel blue eyes searching yours for something hope, maybe. "You think we could ever have that? A normal life?"
You had stopped walking and turned to face him fully. "I think if anyone deserves it, Bucky, it's you. You've been through so much... but you're not just the Winter Soldier. You're more than that."
There was a beat of silence as he had processed your words. Then, with a small, hesitant smile, he said, "I don't know about normal... but I'd settle for something close."
You slightly grinned. "Something close, huh? I think we can manage that."
You two stood there for a moment, the space between them charged with unspoken feelings, and then, before you could stop yourself, you had already reached out to him, your hand brushing against his metal arm. Bucky looked down at your hand, then back up at you a mixture of surprise and something else flickering in his eyes.
"I know you don't think so," You continued softly, "But you're not alone, Bucky. You've got me. And you always will."
Bucky's expression softened, and for a moment, he didn't say anything. Then, almost imperceptibly, he stepped closer, his hand gently cupping her cheek. "Doll, I don't deserve y-"
"You do, plus if we never try how will we know," You had interrupted him, your voice firm yet gentle. "You deserve happiness, you deserve peace, and most importantly you deserve someone who sees you for who you really are."
He looked at you for a long moment, his thumb brushing lightly against your cheek. "You're something else, you know that? If I am really on your mind, why don't you just give me sign."
You smiled softly. "I really want to know, how far this thing could go Sergeant Barnes."
And then, without another word, Bucky closed the distance between you two, his lips meeting yours in a soft kiss that was both tender and full of unspoken promises, it was slow, gentle, and for the first time in a long while, Bucky felt like the weight of the world wasn't pressing down on him.
When the two of you had finally pulled away, Bucky rested his forehead against hers, his voice barely above a whisper. "Maybe this is what comes next."
You softly smiled, your heart was racing fast. "Maybe."
And as the two of you stood there, wrapped in each other's warmth, the world around you two seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of them in a moment that felt like it could last.
