Y/N's hands were tied behind her back, her wrists raw and aching from the coarse rope that dug into her skin. The dimly lit Hydra facility reeked of sterilized metal and damp stone. Her head throbbed from the knockout gas they'd used to take her, and the bitter taste of fear coated her tongue. She'd heard about Hydra's cruelty from Bucky—what they'd done to him—and now she was living it firsthand.
She knew why they had taken her. Y/N wasn't naive. Hydra wanted Bucky—the Winter Soldier—and she was the bait. He had shared his darkest memories with her, told her how they broke him again and again with their cruel methods. But through it all, he had found strength in her, and she became his tether to a world outside of pain. Now, Hydra wanted to sever that tether and drag him back into the abyss.
A heavy door groaned open, and the clack of boots echoed in the cold room. A Hydra officer strode in, flanked by two guards. His face was sharp, his expression cold, and in his hands, he carried a worn leather-bound diary.
Her breath hitched. She recognized it. Bucky had shown her this same book—the one that had once been used to activate him. The very words that had controlled him like a puppet.
"You're going to help us bring him home," the officer sneered, stepping closer. "Barnes will come for you, and when he does, he'll belong to us again."
Y/N glared at him, forcing steel into her voice despite her fear. "He's not yours anymore. He's free."
The officer chuckled darkly. "No one is ever free from Hydra."
Bucky had been frantic when he found out Y/N was missing. The moment he saw her broken phone left on the sidewalk, his heart sank. He knew it wasn't an accident. Hydra's shadow loomed large in his life, and the thought of them laying their hands on her filled him with a cold, unrelenting rage.
Sam and Steve had tried to help him track her down, but Bucky couldn't wait. When he received the anonymous Hydra signal—a taunting message telling him where to find her—he didn't hesitate. Armed and determined, he stormed the remote facility under cover of night.
Y/N heard the chaos before she saw him. The sound of metal clashing, the sharp cracks of gunfire, and the unmistakable grunts of a man fighting with deadly precision. Then, silence.
Her heart pounded as the door burst open, revealing Bucky in full combat mode. His hair clung to his sweat-dampened face, his jaw set in a grim line. His vibranium arm gleamed in the flickering fluorescent lights, and his piercing blue eyes scanned the room until they landed on her.
"Y/N," he breathed, relief washing over his features for a fleeting moment. He was at her side in an instant, cutting the ropes with a knife. His hand lingered on her cheek as he whispered, "Are you hurt?"
"I'm okay," she said shakily. "But we need to get out of here."
Before they could move, the officer stepped into the doorway, flanked by guards. "Not so fast, Soldier."
Bucky's entire body tensed, his hand instinctively moving to shield Y/N. The officer held up the diary, flipping it open with a smug grin.
"No!" Y/N cried, realizing what was about to happen.
The officer began to recite the words. One by one, the trigger phrases that Bucky feared most. His breathing grew ragged, and his grip on Y/N's hand tightened painfully. She saw the conflict in his eyes, the struggle to hold onto himself, but the words dug deep, pulling him under.
"Желание Ржавый Семнадцать Рассвет Печь Девять Доброкачественный Возвращение на родину Один рузовой вагон," the officer intoned. (Desire Rusty Seventeen Dawn Furnace Nine Benign Homecoming One freight car.)
