You and Bucky had been best friends for years, bound by your shared adventures and mismatched personalities. You were the sunshine to his storm clouds, always smiling, always finding the silver lining, while he wore his grumpiness like armor. He'd roll his eyes at your enthusiasm, muttering about "unnecessary happiness," but you knew he loved having you around. He just... wouldn't admit it.
Today was no different. You'd dragged him to a neighborhood carnival, eager to show him a good time despite his constant, "I don't do crowds, Y/N." And now, here you were, weaving through the booths as Bucky followed, his scowl barely hiding the small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
"Oh, come on, it's fun!" you said, tugging him by the hand toward a game booth. "Look! You just have to knock down a few bottles. Even you can manage that, right?"
Bucky raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms. "Yeah, because throwing things is my specialty."
You snorted. "Oh, please. Just try it. I'll even give you a prize if you win."
He gave you a skeptical look. "What kind of prize?"
You grinned, leaning closer. "If you win, I'll treat you to anything you want for a week. No complaints."
Bucky's eyes lit up with interest, a rare grin breaking through his usual scowl. "Anything?"
"Anything," you confirmed.
With a shrug, Bucky picked up a ball, eyes narrowing as he sized up the game. In a swift, effortless motion, he knocked down every single bottle, clearing the game with a smirk. The booth worker handed him a ridiculous stuffed bear, which he promptly shoved into your hands.
"Guess you're treating me now," he murmured, voice low, teasing.
You rolled your eyes, but your stomach did a tiny flip. You'd never admit it to him, but sometimes, being the object of his rare smiles and attention made you feel like you were the only person in the world.
