"Title: Argument during mission."
Summary: You and Bucky, start arguing during the mission.
The night was thick with tension as Y/N crouched behind a rusted car, her heart pounding like a war drum in her chest. She glanced at Bucky, who was a few feet away, his metal arm glinting in the dim light of the moon above. They were on a covert mission to infiltrate a high-security facility suspected of housing dangerous tech. This wasn't their first mission together, but tonight felt different; something simmered beneath the surface.
"Y/N, you need to focus," Bucky whispered, irritation lacing his voice as he adjusted the rifle slung over his shoulder.
"I am focused, Bucky! But you need to stop treating me like I'm some rookie!" she shot back, her voice a mix of frustration and hurt. He had been giving her orders all night, and she felt more like a sidekick than his partner.
Bucky's blue eyes narrowed, and he leaned closer. "I'm just trying to keep you safe. You think I want to lose you out here?"
"I can handle myself! You don't have to babysit me!" Y/N snapped, her temper flaring. She shifted her weight, her gaze darting around to ensure no enemies were lurking nearby. "This isn't about me needing help; it's about you not trusting me."
His jaw tightened as he took a deep breath, visibly struggling to rein in his emotions. "It's not about trust! It's about the stakes. We can't afford to make mistakes-"
"Then maybe you shouldn't be so reckless!" she interrupted, her voice rising. The sound of a distant explosion rattled the ground beneath them, but the chaos of the mission faded into the background.
Bucky's patience wore thin. "Reckless? I'm trying to protect you! You don't understand what I've been through. I've seen people I care about die because they didn't listen!"
Y/N felt a sharp pain in her chest at his words. The shadows of his past were haunting them both, but tonight, she didn't want to dwell on that. "And you think arguing with me is going to help? Just because you've lost people doesn't mean you get to push me away!"
The tension between them crackled like electricity, and in that moment, their voices echoed through the night, the mission forgotten. Bucky's expression softened, regret flashing across his face. "I... I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that."
She could see the weariness in his eyes, the remnants of battles long fought. Y/N sighed, her anger ebbing away as she ran a hand through her hair. "I'm sorry too. I just want to be your equal out here. I don't want to feel like a liability."
He took a step closer, his voice dropping to a low murmur. "You're not a liability, Y/N. You're my partner. I care about you more than I can put into words. I just get scared, okay? I can't lose you."
Y/N's heart softened at his vulnerability. "You won't lose me. But we need to communicate better. We're a team, remember?"
A hint of a smile tugged at the corner of Bucky's lips, and he nodded. "Yeah, a team." He paused, his gaze intense. "Let's finish this mission together. No more shouting."
"Deal," she replied, her voice steadier now.
They shared a moment of understanding, the air between them warming as they refocused on the mission. As they moved together, Bucky's hand brushed against hers, and she felt a familiar spark.
They crept through the shadows, relying on each other's instincts. When they reached the facility's entrance, Y/N took the lead, feeling a surge of confidence. Bucky was right beside her, his presence a comforting reminder that they were stronger together.
In the thick of the operation, they worked in perfect sync-Y/N bypassing security systems while Bucky took down guards with a mix of grace and precision. When they finally secured the tech, they made their way back to their extraction point.
As they waited for the chopper, Y/N turned to Bucky, her heart racing. "You know, I think we make a pretty good team."
Bucky chuckled softly, his tension finally easing. "I'd say so. Just promise me one thing."
"What's that?"
"Next time we argue, let's do it in a safer place, like a cozy couch, instead of on a mission."
She laughed, the sound lightening the air. "Deal. And I promise to try to keep my temper in check."
He smiled, and in that moment, the weight of their earlier argument lifted entirely. The chopper's roar filled the air, and as they climbed aboard, Y/N felt the warmth of Bucky's hand slip into hers.
