Title: Darling, can I be your favorite?
Summary: Gym, Kiss, Repeat.
The Avengers Compound was unusually quiet that afternoon. The only sound was the rhythmic clinking of weights in the training room, where You and Bucky were locked in their usual sparring session. Sweat beaded on your brow as she circled Bucky, who stood with his arms raised, waiting for her next move.
The cat-and-mouse game between them had been going on for weeks now. Bucky was always one step ahead, but you never backed down, enjoying the challenge as much as the playful banter they exchanged. It was all part of the dance they had fallen into since they started dating.
"You gonna make a move or just stare at me all day?" Bucky teased, a smirk playing on his lips.
You rolled your eyes but couldn’t help the smile tugging at her mouth. “Maybe I’m just giving you time to reconsider.”
“Oh, doll, we both know I don’t need that.” Bucky’s eyes gleamed with mischief.
You narrowed her gaze playfully. She darted forward, throwing a jab at his chest. Bucky blocked it easily, his metal arm catching her wrist with precision. But you already had a plan. As you twisted out of his hold, you had taken a step closer towards him, leaning in and planting a quick kiss on his lips.
Bucky froze for just a second, surprised by the sudden gesture, and you couldn’t suppress her giggle. It was a small victory in their endless back-and-forth game.
"Darling," she said in a sing-song voice, leaning just close enougph to tease him, "can I be your favorite?"
Bucky blinked, momentarily thrown off by your playful distraction. He let out a low chuckle, shaking his head at your antics. With a swift motion, he caught your wrist again, this time gently pulling your toward him. His expression softened as he gazed down at you, his smirk replaced by something warmer, more genuine.
"Oh, doll," he murmured, "you already are."
You felt your cheeks warm at his words, but before you could reply, Bucky tugged you a little closer. His steel blue eyes sparkled with affection as he looked at you, the playful edge still there but mixed with something deeper. There was always a soft spot in his heart for your teasing, the way you kept him on his toes.
"You’re getting better at this distraction thing," Bucky said, his tone light but his grip still firm on her waist.
You grinned, stepping closer so that you were nearly pressed against him. "I’ve had a pretty good teacher."
"Is that so?" Bucky raised an eyebrow, amusement dancing in his eyes. "You think you can outsmart me, huh?"
"Maybe I already have," You teased, your tone daring.
Bucky let out a low laugh, shaking his head. "You really like pushing your luck, don’t you?"
“Always,” You said, your grin widening.
Without warning, Bucky spun your around, catching you off guard. You gasped as he gently pinned your back against the soft mat, one hand braced beside your head while the other hovered near your waist. But there was no threat in his movement—only the same playful energy they’d shared all along.
Bucky leaned close to her left a soft peck on her lips just like she did earlier to distract him.
"Gotcha," Bucky said, his voice low and teasing.
You squirmed, pretending to struggle but laughing the whole time. "Okay, okay! You win."
Bucky’s smile softened, and he leaned down, brushing a light kiss against your forehead. "You’re lucky I love you," he said, his voice warm.
You grinned at him, your heart fluttering at the tenderness in his gaze. "I know, and I love you too."
He pulled you up, and the two of them stood close together, the air between them still buzzing with that familiar, playful tension.
You could feel your pulse quicken, but it wasn’t from the sparring—it was from being this close to Bucky, knowing that he always had your back, even when they were in the middle of their little games.
"You sure you’re not tired of this yet?" You asked, tilting your head as you looked at him.
Bucky shook his head, his hand finding yours. "Not even close, doll. You keep me on my toes."
You smiled softly, squeezing his hand. "Good. Wouldn’t want to make things too easy for you."
"Easy?" Bucky chuckled, pulling you closer for a brief hug. "With you, nothing’s easy, but that’s exactly how I like it."
You rested your head against his chest, feeling his heartbeat steady and strong. Despite their constant teasing, there was always this—moments of quiet, where they could just be together, comfortable in each other’s presence.
You felt a flutter in your chest at his words. His tone was so tender, and for a brief moment, all the playful banter between them melted away, leaving only the warmth of their connection. You looked at him, feeling the gentle tug of affection between them, the way he held you just close enough to make your heart race faster.
"How do you do that?" Bucky murmured, his hand brushing a strand of hair from your face. His touch was gentle, almost reverent.
"Do what?" You asked gently, tilting your head with a soft grin.
"Make me forget about everything else," he said softly, his steel blue eyes locking onto yours. There was a tenderness in his gaze that made you feel like the only person in the world at that moment.
Your teasing smirk softened into something more genuine, you had now rested your hand on his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. "Maybe it’s because you let me," you whispered softly.
Bucky’s lips curved into a smile, and he chuckled softly, pulling you just a bit more closer. "You just might be right."
They stood like that for a moment, the quiet between them comfortable, filled with the unspoken affection they shared. It wasn’t about sparring anymore. It was about the connection they’d built, the trust and warmth that had grown between them.
"You’re trouble, you know that?" Bucky teased, his smile widening.
You laughed lightly, leaning your forehead against his. "Only for you."
He chuckled, the sound deep and rich, before pressing a soft kiss to your forehead. "Yeah, and I wouldn’t have it any other way."
"Y'know, you’re my favorite too, you know," You murmured softly.
Bucky smiled, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of your hand before nuzzling his nose against the crook of your neck, making you softly chuckle, your infectious laughter was music to his ear. "I better be, doll."
