The sun had just begun to set over Austin, casting a warm golden glow across the city. TK had just finished his shift at the firehouse and was excited to head home. He felt energized, ready to spend the evening with Carlos, who was working a late patrol shift.

As he drove home, he received a call from the station. They were short-staffed due to a last-minute emergency, and they needed all hands on deck. Without thinking twice, TK agreed to help. After all, he loved being there for his team.

The night was quiet, but just as TK was about to wrap up, a call came through about a multi-vehicle accident on the highway. He felt adrenaline kick in as he rushed to the scene, ready to assist.

The chaos of the accident was overwhelming. Sirens blared, and lights flashed everywhere. As TK worked alongside his fellow firefighters, he spotted a victim trapped in a car, unconscious and in desperate need of help. Without hesitation, he moved toward the wreckage, focusing on the task at hand.

But in the blink of an eye, another vehicle skidded into the scene, sending debris flying. TK barely had time to react before he was knocked off his feet. The impact left him dazed, and the world spun around him.

At Home

Carlos finished his shift and was looking forward to a quiet evening with TK. He had prepared their favorite meal and set the table. As he waited, his phone buzzed with a message from one of TK's colleagues.

"Hey, just a heads-up, TK had a rough night. He got injured on a call, but he's okay. We're taking him to the hospital."

Panic surged through Carlos. He quickly grabbed his keys and rushed to the hospital, his heart racing.

At the Hospital

When Carlos arrived, he found TK sitting on a hospital bed, a bandage wrapped around his arm and a faint bruise on his forehead. TK smiled weakly, but Carlos could see the pain in his eyes.

"Hey, you're here," TK said, trying to sound cheerful.

"Of course I am! What happened?" Carlos demanded, trying to keep his voice steady.

"Just a little accident. I'm fine," TK replied, but Carlos wasn't convinced.

"Fine? You were hit by a car, TK!" Carlos's voice rose slightly, and he stepped closer, unable to hide his concern. "You could've been seriously hurt!"

TK reached for Carlos's hand, squeezing it gently. "I'm okay, really. Just a bruise and some soreness. They're going to release me soon."

"Not until I hear the doctor say you're perfectly fine," Carlos said, crossing his arms. "You're not leaving my sight until then."

The Next Day

After a restless night filled with worry, Carlos stayed by TK's side, refusing to leave the hospital. When the doctor finally came in, Carlos listened intently, ready to jump in if TK tried to downplay anything.

"Just some bruising and a sprain. He'll need rest and some ice, but he should be back to normal in a week," the doctor assured them.

As soon as the doctor left, Carlos turned to TK, his expression softening. "You scared me, you know that?"

"I didn't mean to," TK replied, his eyes filled with affection. "I just wanted to help."

"I know, but you need to be careful. I can't lose you," Carlos said, his voice almost a whisper.

TK's heart swelled at the depth of Carlos's feelings. "You won't lose me. I promise. I'll be more careful."

"Promise?" Carlos asked, his eyes searching TK's.

"Promise," TK affirmed, leaning forward to kiss Carlos softly.

At Home Again

Once TK was finally released, Carlos took it upon himself to pamper him. He cooked, fetched ice packs, and made sure TK was comfortable. His protective side was in full force.

"Seriously, Carlos, I'm fine! I can walk to the fridge!" TK laughed, trying to stand up, but Carlos gently pushed him back down.

"Nope! You're resting. Doctor's orders," Carlos replied with a teasing grin.

As the days passed, they found comfort in each other's presence. TK's injury served as a reminder of how much they meant to each other. They shared laughter, stories, and cuddled on the couch, the bond between them growing stronger.

One night, as they lay together, Carlos finally relaxed, the worry ebbing away. "You know, I'm not just being overprotective because I'm worried," he said softly, tracing patterns on TK's arm. "I just... I love you, and I want to keep you safe."

TK smiled, his heart full. "And I love you. I promise I'll be more careful. But I also want you to know that I can handle things. I'm not going anywhere."

Carlos nodded, leaning in for a kiss. "Good, because I don't know what I'd do without you."
