Twelve weeks into her pregnancy, Lucy's life had taken on a new rhythm - one punctuated by morning sickness and constant fatigue. Today was particularly difficult, with nausea clinging to her like an unwelcome shadow. Now, curled up in Angela's protective embrace on the couch, she found some solace as they waited for their ultrasound appointment.

Angela's strong arms held her close, providing a sense of comfort Lucy hadn't realized she needed. "You ready for this?" Angela asked, her voice filled with excitement and a touch of nervousness. Lucy nodded weakly, her gaze fixed on the small bump protruding from her otherwise flat stomach. It was still hard to believe there was a tiny human growing inside her.

"I think so," Lucy replied, her voice barely audible. "Just hoping the sickness subsides soon." Angela pressed a soft kiss to Lucy's forehead, her hand gently rubbing circles on her back. "It'll pass," she said reassuringly. "And once we see our little one, it'll all be worth it."

Lucy couldn't help but smile at Angela's optimism, feeling her own excitement start to bubble up. Despite the challenges, she was eager to embark on this journey together.

They sat in comfortable silence, Angela continuing to soothe her, until it was time to leave for the ultrasound appointment. As they stood, Lucy leaned heavily on Angela, grateful for her unwavering support.

Hand in hand, Lucy and Angela made their way to the car, the cool morning air providing a brief respite from the stuffiness of their apartment. Lucy's nausea had subsided somewhat, but she still felt fragile - like a delicate vase teetering on the edge of a table. Angela opened the car door for her, helping her into the passenger seat before jogging around to the driver's side.

As they pulled away from the curb, Lucy couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions swirling within her. Excitement, anxiety, love, and fear all battled for dominance. She glanced at Angela, who was focused on the road ahead, and felt a surge of gratitude.

Arriving at the doctor's office, Lucy and Angela's nerves were palpable, tangible threads woven between their entwined hands.

As they checked in at the reception desk, Lucy couldn't help but feel as though she was stepping into uncharted territory. This was their first ultrasound, their first real glimpse at the tiny life growing inside her. Angela, sensing Lucy's unease, offered words of encouragement. "It's going to be okay," she whispered, her thumb tracing circles on the back of Lucy's hand.

In response, Lucy offered a weak smile, trying to draw strength from Angela's calm demeanour. They were called back to the exam room shortly after, and as they followed the nurse, Lucy felt her heart pound in her chest. Once inside, Angela helped her onto the examination table, her touch gentle and reassuring.

As they waited for the doctor, Angela rubbed Lucy's shoulders, whispering words of comfort in her ear. The room was filled with anticipation, each tick of the clock bringing them closer to the moment they would finally see their baby.

The tension between them was thick enough to cut with a knife, yet somehow, they found solace in each other's presence. When the doctor finally entered, Lucy took a deep breath, squeezing Angela's hand tightly. They were ready. Or as ready as they would ever be.

The doctor entered the room with a warm smile, immediately setting a professional yet comforting tone. She greeted Lucy and Angela before preparing for the ultrasound. Lucy felt a shiver run down her spine as the cool gel was spread across her stomach, the sensation foreign and oddly soothing.

Angela watched the doctor's every move, her own heart rate mirroring Lucy's rapid pulse. The room fell silent as the doctor moved the ultrasound wand over Lucy's small bump, searching for the perfect angle.

In the quiet, sterile room, the doctor's words seemed to echo like thunder: "There's two." Angela's grip on Lucy's hand tightened, and Lucy felt her heart skip a beat. Twins?

The realization washed over them both, leaving them speechless. On the monitor, two little figures danced in harmony, each one a perfect replica of the other. The doctor chuckled at their shocked expressions, pointing out two distinct heartbeats, two tiny noses, and four minuscule limbs. "Congratulations," she said warmly, "you're having identical twins."

Lucy's eyes widened as she looked up at Angela, who wore an expression of utter disbelief. Angela's mind raced with thoughts, *Two? How will we handle two? What if something goes wrong?* But she quickly pushed those fears aside, focusing instead on the incredible miracle growing inside Lucy.

They were going to be parents, not once, but twice over. As the doctor continued to explain the intricacies of having twins, Angela leaned in closer to Lucy, her heart swelling with love and pride.

They exchanged a look that spoke volumes, silently promising to navigate this new chapter together. "We can do this," Angela mouthed, her voice thick with emotion. Lucy nodded, tears streaming down her face, a smile spreading across her lips.

In that instant, the fear was replaced by a profound sense of joy and anticipation. They would be okay - no, better than okay. They were going to be amazing parents.

Lucy couldn't tear her gaze away from the monitor, her emotions a whirlwind of happiness and disbelief. This was really happening - they were going to be moms.

The doctor's words lingered in the air as she handed each of them an ultrasound printout, two tiny figures pressed together like puzzle pieces on the grainy black and white image.

Lucy's hand trembled slightly as she accepted the picture, her gaze locked on the two distinct heartbeats fluttering on the screen. Angela's eyes filled with tears as she looked at their babies, a rush of love flooding her chest.

Lucy nodded, her own emotions too overwhelming to put into words. In that moment, all the challenges they had faced seemed insignificant compared to the beauty and responsibility growing inside her.

As they stared at the pictures, Angela wrapped an arm around Lucy's shoulders, pulling her close. She could feel Lucy's heart racing beneath her palm, a symphony of love and excitement. "Our family is going to be perfect," she murmured, pressing a kiss to Lucy's temple.

Lucy turned to look at her, eyes shining with gratitude and happiness. They shared a smile, one that spoke of the incredible journey they were about to embark on together. Clutching the ultrasound photos tightly, they left the doctor's office hand in hand, their hearts full and their futures bright.
