My hands tremble as I punch in Sienna's number, my heart pounding in my chest. The phone rings once, twice, then goes to voicemail. I curse under my breath and immediately call again.

"Pick up, pick up..." I mutter, pacing back and forth.

The hospital hallway, harshly lit by fluorescent lights, feels dark and suffocating as the worst thoughts rush through my mind. Lucian's words echo in my head: I'll be gentle with her.

A knot tightens in my stomach, each unanswered call amplifying my panic. After the fourth call, I force myself to stop and breathe. Then I rush down to the parking lot, weaving through people without colliding in my haste.

I decide to call someone else.

Ross.

With shaking hands, I dial Ross's number, praying he answers. The phone barely rings before he picks up.

"Roman?"

"Fuck!" I breathe, stopping dead in my tracks with partial relief.

"Where is she? What the hell happened today? Where is she?"

Ross's voice is calm but firm, grounding me despite the tension simmering beneath the surface. "Whoa. Slow down. Roman, everyone's fine."

The words barely register. "An accident-there was an accident-"

"Yes, there was...." Ross confirms. "Everyone's a bit shaken up, but they're all fine. Sienna's okay." he says, as I pace around with my hand in my hair.

"We were heading to the doctor's appointment as planned, when a pickup truck came right at us. We got hit, then slammed into a fire hydrant on the street, thankfully no one was badly injured. Then I rushed them to the nearest medical center as a precaution."

My chest tightens. "And the baby, what about the baby?"

"The baby's okay too. Sienna has a mild concussion, but it's nothing serious. They monitored her for a while and let her go. She's resting now-they gave her something to relax, and she fell asleep as soon as we got home."

"Where is she now?"

"Upstairs, sleeping."

"Are you looking at her?" I ask abruptly, catching him off guard.

"What?"

"You said she's sleeping, Ross. Can you confirm she's on the bed right now, in my house, sleeping?"

"Yes."

"Are you fucking looking at her?"

"Um...no."

"Go and check. Don't hang up until you are." I demand, Lucian's threats still fresh in my mind. I need to make sure she is where Ross says she is.
