Sitting on the edge of the bed, I press my knees together and wait for Rome to get back, he just popped out a few minutes ago and asked me to wait here.

I stare aimlessly around the room, somehow appreciating it's simplistic beauty now that I am seeing it all in a different light.....I recall the first night Rome just showed up in the middle of the night and scared the shit out of me.....I look down at my hand, recalling the slap....not the fist time I've attacked him before..I recall one time during a heated argument I bumped my fists repeatedly against his chest in anger..he was angry too and smashed a piece of furniture against the wall.

I shake my head...it feels like a lifetime ago.

I lower my gaze to my sock covered feet and the sneakers I wore yesterday next to them. I want to wait until the last minute to put my shoes on so that I limit the amount of time I will spend in them considering that they still hurt a bit from yesterday.

I sigh..feeling weird just sitting here doing nothing, but thankfully, I don't wait much longer because the door finally opens and Rome walks in.

"Ok, let's go." he says, clapping his hands together.

"Ok, one second." I say, bending over to finally put my shoes on.

He walks over and asks why I didn't already have them on, and I tell him why.

"Don't you have other shoes to wear?"

"I have pumps." I say. Not exactly an ideal alternative for this cold weather.

He then suggests that I wear one of his thicker socks to see if it makes me more comfortable.

"There you go...." he says, presenting a brown mid-calf length pair, then drops by my feet to help me put them on.

"Thank you." I say, ruffling his hair.

I really should have just brought an extra pair of shoes.and extra everything....I suck at packing. He on the other hand is good at it, and it shows....he came well prepared...which is why I am currently wearing one of his thick layered sweatshirts..a little oversized but comfy and cozzy.

"How does that feel?' he asks, looking up at me from his squatting position after tying the laces.

I wiggle my toes in the shoes.

"Tight..but I think it will work. I like a tight fit after all." I say, offering him one of his trademark winks.

He smirks at my response and stands up.

"Alright..let's go."

We almost walk out of the room when I remember to get something.

"One second." I murmur, running back.

I hear him groan dramatically at my lack of preparedness and I chuckle.

"Hold your fire dude..it's just one second!" I retrieve something from my bag and tack it in my pocket, before running out of the room to join him in the corridor.
