I walk slowly to the front door in a sleepy state.
"Is that your wonderful daughter and my future niece you been telling me about??" Jax smiles from ear to ear.
My mother looks confused until turning around, "Oh glad you could join us, this is Jax. Jax, this is Mel" she says pulling me into a side hug.
"Nice to meet you" I say waving with a smile.
"Oh get in here, where I'm from, We're huggers" he extends his arms out. My feet drag across the floor until I enter the stranger's arms.
"It's true" Derek says shrugging playfully.
"You got..firm grip there" I say, feeling my bones crack a little.
"Sorry. That's what happens when you serve in the Marines for five years and have to constantly work out" he lets go of me.
"Those were the days wasn't it bro?" Jax says looking at him. "Yeah" Derek agrees smiling. "Wait a minute , you served in the army? I mean Marines. I didn't know that" I say shocked.
"Yeah, I did. It was short so I don't really talk about it" he says nonchalantly.
