"Daddy!!! Look!!" Pippa said from her little chair, this was one of Johnny's favourite moments. He often insisted on little dates with his children, sometimes together, sometimes separately. Today was Pippa's turn, whilst her mother had taken Lottie to her first Ballet class.
The family were in America for a while, and Johnny loved it. His eldest two children were going from strength to strength with exceptional grades out of high school and now setting out on a life for themselves, his two youngest were also doing well and growing fast. "Yes darling, that's very pretty well done." Johnny said fondly after stubbing his cigarette on the brickwork of the open doorway and heading back inside. His home art studio that resided at the bottom of their large garden had somehow turned into more of a hobby room for him and his only son somewhere to work on their music and art away from the grabbing clutches of his youngest children.
"I paint like Daddy.." Pippa was singing to herself whilst rinsing her brush in the murky cup of water. Johnny pulled a stall up close by to his daughter's easel, and began adding strokes to his own canvas. A portrait he hoped to use in his latest release with the art gallery he had so fondly collaborated with in recent years. "Papa.." "yes my Angel?" Johnny said biting his lip as he added a swish of black to his canvas. "I love Daddy date dates." This made the father melt. He stopped and placed his brush down. "Me too sweetness. I'm sorry we didn't get to go out today but when Mummy and Daddy are less busy we can do some more fun things ok?" He bent down and kissed her head. "I don't always like going out. Those men are there with the big lights that flash. All the time Daddy." She said not realising her words and how they cut deep with her father. "I know sweetness. It's not fun is it. I'm sorry about that, one day when you're older you'll understand why." "It's ok Daddy, mummy says we only say sorry when it's our fault." Johnny smirked. "Ok Angel." "After we've painted, can we go have snacks?" Pippa asked sweetly. "Ha! You're getting more like your brother every day. Of course we can and then how about we hang your pictures up? They really are works of art!" "Wow!! Can we?? Like the big pictures inside?" She asked excitedly accidentally splashing paint on herself. Damn, that was definitely not going to come out. Oh well, Johnny thought to himself. He loved spoiling those he loved and if she wanted a new dress, she could have one. "We sure can. I'm just about done for now. Are you?" He asked. "Yes!!! TA DAAAAAA" she said showing her latest creation, Johnny smiled and bent down. "It looks great darling." "Shall we put it over there with the others to dry, then we can come back later and get it?" Pippa nodded and stood up, once again accidentally dropping the paint brush down her front and onto her little shoes. "Oh dear.... Mummy is not going to be happy is she?? Especially as she told me to put you in old clothes.." Johnny said under his breath smirking. Pippa began giggling and once Johnny had moved the painting carefully he took her hand. "Daddy look! I have shoes like you now!!" She giggled pointing to his boots that had seen better days, as they made their way up the garden. He looked down and admired her cute patent shoes that were now covered in paint splatters. "That you do!! Just don't tell Mama... I'll sort it." He said before scooping her up onto his hip and entering the house.
The pair soon made their way into the kitchen where Hilda was just finishing up for the day. "Well you look like you've had a fun morning sweetie." She fussed over the little girl. "Yes we had a little accident though." Johnny said smirking. "It will all come out in the laundry... maybe." She giggled before grabbing her bag and wishing Johnny a pleasant weekend. "Right sweetness firstly, let's get this dress off you. It's messy." He sat the child on the worktop, and helped her squirm out of the outfit, she obviously felt the cold instantly as she wrapped her arms round her vest clad self. "Here princess." He said taking off his chequered shirt leaving him in just a paint splattered tee & jeans that clung to his body. He gently wrapped her up in it, and helped her poke her dainty little arms through the large sleeves. She looked a picture but it was the best he could do for now. He left her sitting on the edge of the worktop as he rummaged around in the "treat" cupboard as Holly had so famously named it years prior. "Oooo we have chocolate buttons, chips, what about a pop tart?" He said with his head inside the cupboard. "Pop tart!!!!!" She squealed and he chuckled pulling the box out.
Moments later, the front door opened and he was quickly greeted by his tutu clad middle child Lottie. The 7 year old squealed "Daddy!!!! I'm a Ballerina!!!" She jumped up into his arms excitedly telling him about her first lesson, Pippa sat swinging her legs on the worktop as she received a kiss from her mother. "Do I want to know?" She said spotting her youngest in just her husband's shirt and paint covered shoes. "I'm just like Daddy!!!" She said throwing her arms in the air excitedly making her two parents smile.
