Kiera

"Jason!" Piper shouted.

I hit the ground, trying to twist so I could roll, but I was too late.

I landed on my left side and I heard a sharp crack.

Footsteps echoed over to me, and my eyes were squeezed tightly shut.

"Oh my gods," I muttered quietly. "First fight being able to get injured and I've gotten hurt. Oh my gods."

My right hand was clamped onto my side as the pain washed over me. It had been a while since I got injured.

Someone put their hand on mine, and the other lightly picked my head up. From the warmth I could tell it was Leo.

"Kiera, I need you to get up." He said quietly.

"I can't," I said between breaths. 

Was it just me or was it getting harder to breath? 

"Kiera, open your eyes and sit up." Leo ordered.

I heard Piper sobbing some where near us.

I pushed myself up slightly on my left elbow, but another flash of pain made me regret it.

Leo scooped me up and started figuring out how to help me stand. Black spots danced in my vision. I stumbled into his hold.

"You're okay," Leo said.

"Jason!" Piper wailed. 

When my vision cleared, I could see what was happening. Jason was lying on his back, face up. His body was steaming and his eyes were rolled back in his head. Thalia was kneeling by Piper's side, her hand on Jason's forehead. Piper was hunched over Jason's body.

Hera was standing there, a sad look in her eyes like ' aw man, I liked this demigod. Well, I guess I'll have to get another! '

Leo helped me limp over to them. When we made it to Jason and Piper, I felt it.

His soul.

A wave of death, misery, and sadness overwhelmed me. Jason died. His soul was leaving already.

No, the fuck you don't!

I pushed Leo's hand off me and dropped to my knees as carefully as I could. 

How was I able to help him? He couldn't chew ambrosia, and it might not even help.

Thalia glared up at the goddess. "This is your fault. Do something!"

"Do not address me that way, girl. I am the queen—"

"Fix him, damnit!"

Hera's eyes flickered with power. "I did  warn him. I would never intentionally hurt the boy. He was to be my champion. I told them to close their eyes before I revealed my true form."

"Um. . ."Leo frowned. "True form is bad, right? So why did you do it?"

"I unleashed my power to help you, fool!" Hera cried. "I became pure energy so I could disintegrate the monsters, restore this place, and even save those miserable Hunters from the ice."

"But mortals can't look upon you in that form!" Thalia shouted. "You've killed him!"

A small glow twinkled to life on the other side of Piper. It took the shape of Jason. He put his hand on her back and closed his eyes.

"Jason, I swear to the gods," I growled. "Stay here for five fucking minutes."

Piper looked up at me, tears were rolling down her face. "What?" She asked, wiping tears.
