Gods, did I hate sleeping at Camp Half-Blood.
In the Wilderness School, I'd have nightmares, but Leo was always there to comfort me without question.
But at camp? It's everyone-for-themselves.
I ran through the burning city of Manhattan, trying to get to the Empire State Building as fast as I could.
Please, let me save them. I thought as I sprinted through alleyways and past dead cars.
The sky had turned a dark red, blood red, almost.
My foot caught on something and I was sent sprawling. As I skidded to a stop, my right hand landed on something hard.
My head snapped up and my eyes widened as I saw what it was. Harley's flamethrower.
Not too far from the machine was him. He laid on his side, his back facing me.
"No!" I cried as I stumbled to him.
I flipped him over quickly, searching for any signs of life.
There was none.
A sword was pierced through his chest, and blood soaked his small Camp Half-Blood shirt.
"Harley, please!" I begged, shaking him. "Gods, no. Please!"
The ten-year-old didn't reply.
Another life lost because I was useless. I wasn't able to save him.
The ground shook and I panicked.
I'm so sorry. . .I'll be back.
I got to my feet and started running again, tears welling in my eyes. The smoke around me didn't help, but I waved it past me as I ran. Cars were on fire, some with people inside, some without. Part of me wanted to pull the mortals out, but I couldn't. I had no time.
My feet slammed against the concrete as I rounded my last corner.
The Empire State Building was engulfed in smoke. The red glow in the sky hadn't been from small fires, at all. The sky above it was burning. Olympus was being trashed.
I could care less about that gods forsaken place, but there were people up there.
Wounded. Dead. Alive, even.
I sped past the door and grabbed the key for the elevator. My shadow-traveling didn't work anymore, so I was stuck to using the elevator.
Anxiety seized me as I waited for the button with the six-hundredth floor to glow.
After what seemed like hours, it dinged, and the doors slid open.
I gasped and covered my mouth at the sight.
Bodies of campers were strewn around. Satyrs had become nothing but small sampling's of plants, burning among the chaos. Buildings were torn down, chunks missing. Ichor was gathered near immortal bodies. The whole forest where the muses sat was already burned through. The trees were nothing but ashes.
The shrouds that had been prepared were already gone.
"Nico!" I screamed as I saw him laying on his stomach.
There was a gaping hole in his stomach, and he lay in a pool of his own blood. Nearby, I saw a small movement.
I looked up and saw Will Solace. He was holding hands with Nico, tears down his face as he shook.
