Instead of my usual alarm waking me up, it was flames.
I gasped and pushed myself off my flaming bed, falling onto my back.
My entire bunk was in flames.
"Leo!" I shouted.
There was nothing. No movement, no sound. Nothing.
Instead of my skin being fire resistant, I had small burn marks along my forearms.
Smoke quickly filled my cabin.
There was a pull in my stomach and my water pipe exploded, dousing the flames dancing on my bed.
I couldn't see much past any of the smoke, and I was worried for Leo. He may have been fire proof, but he wasn't smoke and suffocation proof.
I waved aside the excess smoke and steam, trying to see him, but it was all too much. My lungs burned as I held my breath, and I couldn't hold it anymore. I broke out into a fit of coughs as I ran outside.
The door was unlocked, which was weird, considering I never left it unlocked.
My hands were on my knees as I was gasping for air. My lungs rasped with each inhale.
When I caught my breath, I stood up and lost it again.
The entire camp was engulfed in flames. Every cabin, the forges, the fields, even the Big House and infirmary.
Tears welled in my eyes. I saw no sign of life. How could this have happened?
Behind me, there was movement.
I spun around, thinking it was Leo, but I was met with more fire.
I stumbled backwards off my stairs and fell to the ground, as Cabin Three was entirely covered with fire.
Every camper had to be dead. There wasn't anyone running around doing anything.
How am I the last one left?
I got up and started running. Maybe if I could get to the van, I could call someone. . .
My running paused as I passed a tree nymph running, smothered in fire. She had tears running down her beautiful face, her silky brown dress was burned to tatters, and her skin was burning. She was screaming as she ran past me, trying to get to the lake, but she collapsed when she got a few feet from it.
The screaming and crying stopped.
I tried moving again, but I physically couldn't. My feet had been swallowed by the earth, and I was slowly getting deeper and deeper.
A woman laughed. Poor, poor, girl. What's the matter? Earth trapped your feet?
The sound of her told me this was all a nightmare. A very real, very scary, and very painful nightmare.
"Let me go, Gaea!" I shouted, trying to free my feet. "The other campers have done nothing!"
Don't you worry, my girl, Gaea cooed. They died quick painless deaths. You and the boy, on the other hand, will awaken me. I have to savor you, don't I?
I planted my hands on the dirt and pulled myself as hard as I could, slowly freeing my converse.
Like a switch had been flipped, my feet were free. I face planted on the ground but got back up again, running as fast as I could.
The forest was off limits, due to obvious reasons of it being flammable and already in flames.
The only place I could go was the van, and pray to get help.
